Woodstock Has Changed for the Worse ... - 6/25/2012

I moved from Florida to Georgia and made Woodstock my home. The cost of living was extremely affordable, had a good reputation and had a small town feel. NOW ... the traffic on I-575 is terrible, the city has grown, people have changed, it's all about the money you have (especially the Towne Lake and Bridgemill areas). It used to have a sense of a small town feel and no longer feel that. People are cold unless you happen to have small young children and you are a stay at home mom, where your husband works and brings in the $$. The summers are hot and humid and the spring and fall don't last long. I can't wait to move away to a place where people are friendlier and there is a sense of community.

Great City! - 2/10/2011

This is our third move due to job relocations and we absolutely love Woodstock. We are from "the north", yet feel very welcome here even though we are not conservative or baptist. Everyone in our neighborhood seems to be transplants, so they are very welcoming and understanding of new families to the area. I have met a lot of new mom's at the library and swimming at the pools. Although shopping is limited, everyone employed at the stores in the area are very helpful and respectful. We love it here and believe me - there have been a few other places we have resided that we were not too fond of. You can't beat seeing deer and turkeys in your backyard, living 15 minutes away from a lake, and 30 or 40 minutes from Atlanta. Love it!!!

Outsiders Not Welcome! - 7/21/2010

We chose Woodstock three years ago, after living in many other places, because it looked nice and friendly and accessible. Wrong! The only thing accessible is the shopping, but you usually have to go to Roswell, Marietta or Atlanta if you want to shop in something other than Walmart. The people are CLOSED to friendships, for adult and child newcomers alike. They already have their friends and extended families and don't need you, unless you are Southern, conservative, attend their baptist church every week, and share all of the same values.

Good place to grow up but changed alottttttt - 5/6/2010

I've lived there since I was 3 years old and I'm now 19. I moved to Panama City,Fl and I do miss Woodstock. The reason why I moved was worth it. As a young resident I've experinced the younger scene. People there are very judgemental and most are rich. The gas prices goes up and down throughout the year, but the traffic isn't bad just during the rush hours from atl and back. There is a poor side odviously, but alot of drugs that happen here. Don't expect much from the cops. They're very strict here. You will drive 5 miles and see at least 5 cops driving and ones on the side (plus one or two cars pulled over). A good variety of restaurants and schools tho. Not too much crime either. It's pretty safe. Jobs there are bad tho. Unemployment are everywhere. It's gotten a lilttle bit better, but its still bad and they havent done much to help. It's a spread out place, but is still growing alot. Nice environment too with trees everywhere. It is mostly 87% white population and barely any black or hispanic population. Wish it was more diverse. It has it's southern stlye, but very city like feel with the city like people.

They don't want your kind here - 2/11/2010

No blacks, very little hispanics. I have been in woodstock a short period of time and already I see I am not welcome because I am not a redneck or religious preppy white person. They don't want you there if you don't look like them. Even the police are dicks. Like something out of a B movie, if they don't like you they will try to treat you like crap till you leave. I would steer clear of this wanna be eliteist city. All minorities should move here to spite them. Racists.

Moved here from South Florida...many Floridian tra - 5/28/2008

We researched many Atlanta suburbs before moving here 6 months ago, and selected Woodstock because of the location, schools and the beautiful rolling hills. We loved that is was so developed without looking so developed...Starbucks on every corner, Fast Food galore, Publix, Trader Joe's, Target...all the shopping amenities you need at your finger tips. Atlanta, Who needs to go there excpet for work? We are happy with our move here, but two things...take the warnings you here about commuting serious! It IS as bad as they say, and with the gas pricies climbing, it will not be worth any paycheck! Get the condo in the city and take the MARTA, "play" with the money you will save!!! Another thing here is that daycare costs a fortune!!!! The prices are very high here, expect to pay close to $200 per WEEK for any child under 2yrs old!! We shopped around, but after all the drving you will do, you just want someplace close and safe...which is not cheap! Good Luck! It's beautiful here and the people are very nice!

Left Arizona for Georgia - 3/25/2007

Long, boring, tiring drive to Georgia from Arizona; but worth it! Friendlier people, great weather with seasons, and reasonable housing. The humidity softens my skin. I know my neighbors. Rivers and lakes everywhere. No dust storms, and beautiful rain. Driving distance to many more states, not to mention the history here. Atlanta is a real city...a true city culture. Woodstock is farther north in the hills, but close to Atlanta; best of both worlds!

housing has shot up whether out 40 iles or close - 2/20/2007

The metro atlanta area used to be very affordable. just in the last 6-8 years the market has been driven insanely up, for atlanta. people moving from california or new york used to get a 'mansion' from what they had, but now, i don't know. for a state that does not license builders, you have to be very careful about buying used or new homes, inspect inspect inspect! You can't find affordable quality homes whether you are 25 miles from atlanta or 80. used to have custom builders making quality average homes, now, don't even think about it for less than 500k. Or you end up in the country in a townhome for the median price! realtors and builders are too greedy , but thats a national problem. Condos have gone down about 15-40 grand, their market has tanked. resales are up as is the renovation industry. i've been here since the early 80's and loved it, now ....I just don't know where the southerners are hiding, they are the kind ones I moved here to live among. The cops in small towns, well in atlanta, are corupt as is the good ol'boy clubs. I am looking to move away. i am disgusted with the changes. here's hoping its not this bad everywhere.
