Review of Rochester, New York

killing ourselves to pay our bills
Star Rating - 10/28/2006
Rochester may be beautiful for it's changing seasons, but pretty leaves and fresh fallen snow don't pay our bills. Neither do our jobs lately either. The ever dwindling economy makes it virtually impossible to enjoy owning your home because you have to take every hard earned paycheck and hand it over to our government who is taxing us to death. Our property taxes basically negate any write off we get for owning our home. Entertainment wise, there is much to be desired. You either have to be into the "arts" or into going to nightclubs. Other than that, your options are dinner and a movie. Since SO many people have only dinner as their option, plan on waiting 2 1/2 hours for dinner. Once you do dinner, a movie and a babysitter.....you've spent over $120.00. Once again, taking you back to how unaffordable everything is. If you don't enjoy freezing your a** off, you can plan on sitting in the house, or pacing the malls looking at all the stuff you can't afford, for five months out of the year. But on a brighter note, during the 3 lovely summer months, you can go swimming at one of our beautiful beaches. Just make sure you don't step on a used tampon or condom and be sure to check to see if it is open for swimming due to bacteria levels in the water. During the autumn, you can plan a nice trip to one of the area pumpkin patches, but make sure you do it on the one nice day we get, otherwise, you'll be up to your knees in mud from all the rain. We did have the fast ferry to take us to Toronto to spend all the money we aren't making, oh yeah, it failed because tickets were too expensive and families couldn't afford them so no one bought them. You can pride yourself on the fact that you live in the city where George Eastman got his start.....(George Eastman committed suicide!)and as you drive by Kodak, you can take a deep breath and smell exactly what Kodak gives back to our community. The schools aren't so bad I guess, the undercover police in each school to fight drugs and gangs probably help a little. So, if you really want to work in Rochester, you will be a success if you have no ambition to further yourself, your career,or your economic status. Enjoy....because we are getting out while we are still young.
