It's a dry heat! - 2/27/2012

The hardest thing to get used to in Ridgecrest is the weather. It can get quite windy. And hot. 115 hot. But it's a dry heat! It does cool off in the evening, and it only lasts for a few months in the summer. The winters are cold, (well, depending on what you are used to) with lows in the 20s-30s. It rains occasionally, and snows rarely. There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, great star gazing, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Intolerance - 8/26/2009

While Ridgecrest's "religiosity index" is no greater that that of the United States, on average, it seems to have more of its share of religious extremists. I will define the term "extremist" in this instance as an individual who is highly suspicious of others that don't share his religious beliefs or political inclinations. Atheists, gays, Liberals can easily feel marginalized in this community. Based on the "letters to the editor" of the local newspaper, it appears that the town is populated by hard-working, patriotic, gun-owning Christians, and they want to make sure you know that. Our only bookstore, a few years back, was picketed for selling Playboy and the like. Don't get caught smiling on one of our rare cloudy days!

A nice place... - 9/20/2008

Not a bad place to live if you like a small town and the desert. The major employer is the Navy base, so the job market is quite competitive. Housing prices are fairly good, but gas is a little pricy.

Relaxing place to live - 4/9/2007

I have lived in or around Ridgecrest CA for 26 years and I enjoy the following: Located within a half a day drive from San Diego, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. No traffic congestion. Close to Sierra Nevada Mountains. Reasonable cost of living.
