Beaumont, TX

This place is gross and so are the people. Everyone's fat, obese, lazy, uneducated, boring, small minded and the food blows. Coming here was the worst thing I could have ever done. Can't wait till this assignment is over so I can get out! Oh and there's no culture nor sidewalks. No wonder people are so big.

BEAUMONT IS A BIG FAT UGLY JOKE!!!! - 1/5/2013

I swear the only thing I love about Beaumont is my FAMILY who lives there. That's IT! Everything else, I HATE IT! There's nothing to do in Beaumont what so ever! The mall SUCKS! Everyone wears the same thing because every store in that mall sells the same clothes! The movie theaters SUCK! Especially Hollywood! There's a lot of Unnecessary rules they make up at Hollywood theater it's just stupid. The restaurants are disgusting! No good food what so ever. Plus, the staff are unprofessional and rude. Don't even get me started on the schools! I attend West Brook High School and the AP's are big fat JOKES, the teachers don't know how to teach what so ever and they're very unprofessional! NONE of the high schools in Beaumont has school spirit at ALL! The other two high schools in Beaumont which is Ozen and Central are SOOOO GHETTO!!!!! West Brook is STUCK UP and has lots of cliques. Whoever drives a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Escalade and lives in the West End of Beaumont is considered "rich" because Beaumont is so small and most of the city is covered with the projects, refineries, or the country. Beaumont is just a BIG HUGE JOKE!!!!!! I just can't WAIT to move to the Houston Area in June 2013 so I can be FAAAAAAAR AWAY FROM THIS TOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [read more...]

Beaumont is a Joke and completely Filty place to l - 10/29/2010

Beaumont is a filty, dirty place to live, work, breath. I have lived all over the US and other countries and I can honestly say this place IS the worst. It makes Newark look clean and LA look as though they have no polution. Face it, it is NASTY. And how about the corupt Dr. Carole Thomas. What a joke. He wouldn't make it as a McDonalds' supervisor. His school is system is one of the worst in the state yet he makes more money than the president. And how about his idea of a hotel. He works for a non-profit school system, HELLO![read more...]

Setting the record straight about Beaumont. - 8/26/2010

Let's start off with the attitude of Beaumont citizens, some of you say that people in Beaumont are rude and cliquish unless you are a doctor or a lawyer. I have lived in Beaumont my whole life and have meet a lot of really nice people, does Beaumont have some rude, snobbish, stuck up people yea but doesn't every city. I would have to say that the majority of Beaumont are really nice so I wouldn't judge awhole city by a few bad eggs. Josh said "Beaumont is terrible, period. within a 40 mile radius there are 4 huge oil refineries and literally dozens of petrochemical plants." Lets get this straight there is only one refinery in the Beaumont city limits and it is in the south end of town. There is really no reason to be in the south end because there isn't much down there unless you live there or work there. There is the Good Year plant and a paint plant on the outskirts of the city, all the other refineries and petrochemical plants are in Port Arthur and there really is no reason to goto Port Arthur. Marthile said that the air in Beaumont is toxic, I have been to a bunch of cities like Houston, Austin, Dallas, Galveston, etc and the air smells no different here then anywhere else. Josh called the citizens of Beaumont rednecks, this is a urban area last time I checked rednecks lived in rural areas like Sour Lake. Marthile also said "you cannot make any money here, the cliquish people here will not allow it." I don't see how these so called cliquish people are stopping you from making money, it is hard for anyone to make money in this economy right now. There are non wealthy people making money in Beaumont. If you are qualified for a good paying job nobody but yourself is stopping you. Now lets address the beach. "The beaches are covered with trash." I don't know if you people have ever looked at a map of Texas but the beach is not part of Beaumont. It is not the responsiblity of Beaumont to keep the beaches clean (This is the dumbest complaint I have ever heard.) Even at that you talk about the beach like it is covered in trash, no it's not Cancun but it's not as bad as you make it out to be. Then you talk about the water being brown, when did the citizens of Beaumont decide to turn the water brown, it's been that way for as long as I can remember. "The roads here have not been repaired, unless you are a doctor or a lawyer." Now this is something that I can somewhat agree with you. Beaumont does have some roads that need to be repaired, but what does being a doctor or a lawyer have to with repairing a road. Marthile said that "The University is a joke" Washington Post Writers Group gave Lamar University an (A) for biggest bang for your buck. The enrollment increases every year, the engineering department is one of the top in the state of Texas please tell me how this University is a joke. "Oh yea, being close to the coast they do not even support the seafood industry. There is only 2 seafood resturants in the area and one is a resturant chain." There is Red Lobster, Pappadeaux, Baytown Seafood, Catfish Kitchen, Joes Crab Shack, Floyd's Seafood, Sartin's Seafood, etc. We are a mid size city, not a major city there is no reason for us to have 20 seafood resturants. Marthile said "Their mall is a joke also, the clothing they sell looks like someone trying to work the streets." There is Dillard's, Sears, Old Navy, American Eagle, Macy's, Hollister, Abacrombie & Fitch, Wet Seal, Butch Hoffer, and many more nice clothing and shoe stores in Parkdale Mall. I don't see where you get off saying that all the clothing stores at the mall are trash. I don't think that the quality of these products are any different then the prducts in the same stores in a different city. Marthile also says "everytime is rains it floods the streets, why because the local government will not do anything about the canals that stay completely full all the time." This is a complaint that I don't understand, you make it sound like whenever it rains everyone in Beaumont is in danger of having there homes flooded. Even after hurricane Rita there wasn't any massive amount of flood damage in the Beaumont area. So how are you going to say there is a flood problem when we have been through a hurricane and it wasn't a problem. Now the weather "The heat is terrible and the electricity bill are out of this world with the humidity at a 100%." This comment would makes me think you haven't lived in Texas your whole life. This is Texas yea it gets HOT in the summer, we are not the only place in the world that is hot and humid. As long as your house is properly instalated and your windows are sealed good your electric bill will not break the bank. So in conclusion I would say Beaumont is a great place to call home, it is a city that is not to big but not to small. There is plenty of things to do like shopping, going to a nice resturant, taking the boat or jet ski's out on the Neches for a day of family fun, or recreational sports and plenty more. What you can't do i'm sure you will find it an hour down I-10 in Houston or maybe staying in a nice hotel 45 minutes away on the sea wall in Galveston. [read more...]

I agree with Josh in Sour Lake - 12/18/2009

Josh is exactly correct. The people here have attitudes and are very rude. You can even watch the local news station weather man "Brown" and see how smart ass these people are. The town is very cliquish, unless you are a doctor or lawyer. You cannot make any money here, the cliquish people here will not allow it. I worked for a doctor in Beaumont for over 5 years. One day I was talking to his wife and asked her about her facial cream, her response was, "oh honey, you can't afford it." Yes, people are just like this. The beaches are covered with trash, the roads here have not been repaired, unless you are a doctor or lawyer. So driving down the roads will tear your car up. Dive in fron of the Beaumont-Parkdall mall, that is a joke. The city has trash all over it and people don't care. There is alot of racism here too, blacks against whites. The university is a joke also with a refinary across the street, so all during the day you can smell the toxic air as you walk to your classes. All there is to do here is eat. Oh yeah, being close to the coast they do not even support the seafood industry. There is only 2 seafood resturants in the area and one is a resturant chain. There is alot of stealing going on in the local government. Their mall is a joke also, the clothing they sell looks like someone trying to work the streets. Turn on your TV and watch gangester rap and this the clothes they are selling, cheap looking Even time it rains it floods the streets, why because the local government will not do anything about the canals that stay completely full all the time. People houses continues to flood each time and each time of the year...they don't care, they look at it like this, "hey that your problem not mine." The way people communicate is by putting you down in front of someone. Let me give you an example, I was taking my final exam in class, a student phone went off in her purse, the professor asked the student to come and turn her phone off, which her purse was sitting on the floor in the front of the class with everyone else property. Instead of saying she was sorry for interupting the class, she came back with a smart ass remark, "you don't put a Coach purse on the floor" This is the attitude you will receive. The heat is terrible and electricity bill are out of this world with the humidity at 100%. So ladies when you spend time fixing your hair as soon as your walk out the door, you hair falls, or your curls will be straight. I hate this place and the people that live here. I could go on but I think you get the gest of my view. I have lived her 25+ years, so I know what I am talking about.[read more...]

The worse place I've ever lived - 6/18/2008

Beaumont is terrible, period. Within a 40 mile radius, there are four huge oil refineries and literally dozens of petrochemical plants. The air quality is marginal and if the sight of industrial flares dotting the landscape seems attractive to you, you'll love it. The place is infested with ignorant, slack-jawed, inbred rednecks who cannot seem to force food down their gullet into their expansive midsections unless it is fried. "Oh, but the beach is close by." The nearby beaches are absolutely HORRIBLE. The water is brown and the sand is strewn with seaweed and more trash than you ever thought possible. On this last point, I cannot emphasize how disgusting the beaches are. Fishing line, rusty old lures, cans, broken bottles, syrofoam, food wrappers, etc., etc., etc. In the years I lived in Beaumont, I brought my children to the beach perhaps twice and both times I did not let them get in the water. The temps start hitting the high 80's in early May, jump into the high 90's by early july, and stay there literally through October. Avg December temp is right at 75 degrees. And if you like the excruciating heat, you'll love the humidity, which seems to hover right around 100% for most of the year. There are only about a dozen golf courses in the entire area (and only two that even rate a 2-star rating), and not a real museum anywhere to be found (unless you count the local energy museum - a tribute to the oil business). People are very cliquish. Local govt is either incompetent, corrupt, or both. There is no variety in restaurants or nightlife. Let me put it this way. Texas has 254 counties. During the period from 1950-2000, Jefferson County (Beaumont) was one of ONLY TWO counties in the entire state to LOSE population. That's right, even the natives hate it here. I can honestly say that I cannot find a single redeeming quality in that entire squalid town.[read more...]
