Don't know what to think - 1/4/2010

I moved to Cary , N.C. two years ago but have not really warmed up to it. It does have nice residential areas but that is really all there is to it. Some people work for SAS or a few other companies but most commute to Raleigh or Durham. There is little to do here and no real effort to do anything about that. If you like to stay home and tend to your yard you will be fine here. The houses are not selling here so now they are building cheap townhomes for about 250,000 plus that are really pretty badly built. I have lived all over the USA but for some reason this area is one of the least friendly I have ever encountered-there is an arrogance about being the best place to live in ratings for a few years -so maybe a curse rather than a blessing. LOL. Honestly it is just pretty but empty , no social networks, no interesting events, lots of natives who are angry that there are outsiders and their developments. Anger over shopping centers -although to me if that had not occured it would be like living in the woods. Sort of mediocre.

Liberal Yankee Heaven - 7/12/2009

If you are from New York, or somewhere in the NE, and you love other liberal Yankees, Cary is the place to move. The name stands for "C-entral A-rea (for)R-elocated Y-ankees. If you are a conservative midwestern boy or girl looking for "southern hospitality and conservative people look elsewhere. Pretty much all of Raleigh - Durham is like this.

Not much to do if your single.......... - 6/22/2009

Not much to do if you are single. This is a family city only. Don't look for culture, art or music here. Boring city for empty nesters.

Looking for Paradise! - 9/23/2008

I'm seriously thinking of moving to a warmer climate, but with some change of seasons. I am interested in North Carolina. I visited Cary, North Carolina and liked it a lot; however, I'm interested in finding more information about Charlotte, North Carolina. I love the fine arts . . . plays, ballet, symphony, museums, cultural and fun activities for family, children and adults. I love the coffee shops, movies, Barnes & Noble, etc. I also love biking, hiking and swimming. Indoor and outdoor water parks are fun. Christian activities are very important to me also. I'm looking to live around some good, positive people! Excellent ratings on schools (all grade levels) are very important to me. I have a 5 year old daughter, and I also am returning to college. Also, safe, progressive neighborhoods are very important to me. So, to sum it all up . . . a mild climate, excellent education, a good church, safe neighborhoods, and fun indoor and outdoor activities would almost be paradise for me! Can anyone give me any information . . . even if it is outside of North Carolina? Please e-mail me at skshealynn8@gmail.com Thanks, Shea

Dedication of new park - 9/3/2008

A dedication for phase II of the Middle Creek School/Park in Cary is scheduled for Sat, 9/13 at 10:00. I've walked around the park a couple of times, and I can't help but be impressed by the facilities. This includes a disc golf course, two lighted soccer fields, playground, baseball diamond, picnic shelter, and walking trails. I moved to North Carolina 3 years ago, and I'm truly impressed w/ the park and recreational system.

School District-- bad - 2/23/2008

Cary is a very beautiful place but the education is terrible! If you want your children to acheive greatness then I would recommend that you send them to Private School or home school them. The public schools are apart of the Wake County Public School District, and right now they have no money and no idea how to make sure that your child has the best education he or she can have. Only some of the teachers are really willing to go the extra mile and neither or the school administration. There was a principal who quit only 3 months after being hired at the school! Beware of the school district, make sure that you read to your child every day and don't send them to a medeocer school!!

Great Place to Raise a family - 2/15/2008

My wife Lisa and I have a team with RE/MAX UNITED and we love Cary, NC!. After 10 moves during our first 24 years of marriage(Blacksburg, VA; Lynchburg, VA (2 X's); Richmond, VA; Columbia, MD; Cary, NC; Gulf Breeze, FL; Alpharetta, GA; San Diego, CA, back to Richmond, VA) and after our 2nd of 4 children graduated high school, Lisa and I moved to our favorite town of all our previous relocations - CARY, NORTH CAROLINA! We've always loved Cary and the Triangle Area because of the friendly people, great schools, great climate, and proximity to the beach, mountains, our families, and ACC universities. What a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family!

What you pay for you don't get. - 9/21/2007

I lived in the Cornerstone area of cary and it was pretty expensive even though Cornerstone area isn't one of the expensive areas of cary. You will see that the whole nice look of this place is a facade. You pay 300,000 for a decent sized house in a decent neighborhood...... so it seems. The houses all look the same as everything else in the town. You literally can get lost if you do not have a GPS! All the streets and all the houses and shopping centers look the same and it is very easy to get lost becuase of that. Oh yeah and the roads make you lookse your sense of direction too since they all look like spagetti topology. You need to have a GPS with traffic monitoring for the whole raleigh-durham-cary-chapel hill MSA. It is hell to drive around here. It takes about 35-40 minutes on a good day to hit I-40 and then you deal with both commuter local traffic and thru traffic. It is very annoying to drive around this MSA. What is worse is Magellan GPS units do not have this area on thier NAVTEQ RDS traffic service! If you live in this area Please email Magellan and NAVTEQ and ask them to include this area! It is always a good idea to check traffic and it is very hard on your wallet to live here becuase the amount of gas it takes just to go shopping. You may have a shopping center close by but most of the time it isn't one you want to go to becuase it is expensive and wal-mart is cheaper to buy food from, however you must drive to raleigh for that and it is 1.2-1.7 hours away depending in traffic! There are no good stores around the cornerstone area of cary and morrisville, you need to almost drive to raleigh around the crossroads area to get any good shopping. Cary has too many useless shopping centers that have salons, insurace companies, pet grooming, office supplies, realty companies, and dentist offices in them but alot of them don't have clothes, or video games, or good places to eat they are all clones of red robin and applebees with the same food but more expensive and crowded as hell. And since the overhead is very high you pay alot more. There are no good malls here just shopping centers where you have to walk all day in the heat or cold and it feels rushed you cant just have a casual day at the mall. you just run and get what you need and get out. Too hectic. Also the houses fall apart here my freind owns a 400 grand house and it is falling apart the basement has leaks and the kitchen cabinets are starting to look bubbly becuase they are

It's not so hot. - 6/29/2007

This is my first adventure in the hot humid South and I find it to be just fine. Don't let the heat keep you inside, there are great trails and community walks that are perfectly nice in the mornings or evenings. There are some days when you can't exercise outdoors but go join the new Life Time Fitness and experience in a $30 million health club. This town is great and just keeps getting better.

Nice place to raise a family - 6/6/2007

Cary is an affluent community, very green, very family-oriented. Plenty of parks, concerts and such for children and adults to enjoy. For native North Carolinians (such as myself) however, the town can be a rude awakening if you are accustomed to Southern hospitality. You will find no natives here, as Cary, in fact :) stands for Congested Area of Relocated Yankees. So if you are thinking of coming to stay, and you are from NY, NJ, PA, OH or MI (these are the most common origins of transplants) you will feel like you never left! Except for the weather, of course!

Cary NC - Wonderful for a family and an area to wo - 4/4/2007

We have moved several times in the last 15 years. This is by far the best place to live and work and raise a family. Close to the RDU airport and Raleigh/Durham Cities. This is definately a "Family" Community or "Bedroom" community. Not too much to do as in a large city but it is very resonable to live and the climate has all 4 seasons without the super cold. Summers are fairly warm but not like a desert.

Back for my final comments, I'm moving home to Tex - 3/14/2007

I've read a lot of comments on here and what I have read is this: If you came here from CA., NY, NJ, NH, Conn., or any state/city that has a ridiculous cost of living, high crime rate, over priced housing, etc. then Cary is a great place to live. And I'd have to agree with those people too. But if you come from anyplace else where the cost of living is average, and well built housing is affordable, then Cary is not the place for you. You will be very disappointed in the shoddy construction of over priced vinyl houses that were built in a week and will burn to the ground in less than 15 minutes! It's shocking to say the least! They want 200-600K for a house out here that is pure junk. Sure it looks real nice for the first 2-3 years, then it starts to fall apart around you and before you know it you are living in a 300K ghetto! I'm not joking here people. Be warned that the taxes are high, food is high, medical is high, etc.. What's really shocking is that the Govenor just had his state of the state address and there is 281 Billion in the state budget from taxes and not one dime is going to be spent on transportation in this state!! Yet they are expecting the Triangle to grow into another Dallas or Atlanta in the next 5 years!! The roads here are horrible, there are no freeways to speak of and they keep building these death trap houses farther and farther out on 2 lane blacktops with no way for these people to get into work in the city!! You do the math and then if you think this is where you want to move, then you can lease my house, I'm moving back to Texas!!

Job opportunities in Cary - 2/14/2007

I'm thinking of relocating my family and my construction/remodeling business from South Florida, where it's impossible to get a decent house under $350,000, to Cary. Mainly for my children. But I need to know how the construction business is up there. I hear that the town is growing by leaps and bounds but it's hard to judge my "field" based on that. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Chris

Cary - 2/3/2007

I moved my family from Ohio in August in search of a change. I chose Cary based on the best places reviewed. Yes it is very nice in climate and the mass construction alludes you to believe that business is really great here. I beg to differ. I am a school teacher who took a huge pay cut in search of this better life here. Once all was said and done, the pay cut ended up being so high after the taxes, grocery bills, high medical insurance price and a daycare bill that could pay the mortgage on a $300K home. The schools are ok in Cary but this year round conversion is very inconvenient for a family with 3 kids under 10. Another thing about Cary is that the people here are not friendly. They are rude and always in a hurry. Needless to say, I am now searching elsewhere. Any suggestions?

I am living in a small town in NJ which has a low crime rate of 1 but we are right next to Trenton with crime rate of 8. We need to move to safe neighborhood with good schools. We don't have alot of money and so we might have to move to a townhome and if so, is this a good place to move? Any advice or information is appreciated. Thanks! NM
