pro's and cons - 7/3/2008

maine is an incredibly beautiful place to live. crime is low, life itself is free and easy. however it is expensive to live here. our tax rate is very high. if you love winter sports this is the place to live. we have the most spectacular fall.

The cost of living is way to high here like it is in every New England state.

All 4 Seasons! - 6/18/2007

Having four seasons is what I like best about the state of Maine. In addition, there aren't many other places where you can experience a variety of landscapes - from forests to meadows, from mountains to the coast. Of course you do have to deal with a blackfly or several dozen. ;-) .....but then, it's a small price to pay for such diversity!

Expensive Maine - 8/6/2006

Although Maine is a beautiful state, the cost of living, especially property taxes, is very high.

Health INsurance in Maine - 8/2/2006

If people knew how difficult it is to obtain affordable health care insurance in Maine, no one would live there

Living the community life - 5/27/2006

The further north you go in Maine - the further back you step in time. Many of Maine's little villages are still thriving even with the loss of multiple manufacturing jobs. "Real" Maine people know how to "make do" with little complaint. Most are willing to lend their experience to the innocent newcomers from "away". Maine is a feeling of coming home. I have never felt that I have missed out on anything else that is going on in the world. Most of the villages have their own community theaters, art galleries, church suppers, etc. There is always the internet and an international airport centrally located. The scenery is spectacular and privacy is always respected. It is an amazing place to live.

Newer house in Boothbay Harbor with Waterviews - 3/22/2006

This lovely neat as a pin home has 2/brm & 1/ba with a bright sunny daylight basement that would take nothing to expand for extra living quarters or would make a nice inlaw apartment. Lake views and a wonderful picturesque community. Perfect for starter or retirement.

High Costs in Maine - 3/10/2006

Maine is a beautiful place to live. Unfortunately, over the years the State government has made it a much more expensive place to live. Aside from high housing costs, we Mainers consistantly rank in the "top ten" when it comes to taxation: high property taxes, high income taxes and a 5% sales tax. The State government is driving many of its retirees away.

Maine is special - 2/22/2006

I moved to Maine because it was like Cape Cod where I grew up 40 years ago, except Maine is not overrun and overpopulated like my home place. Because it is so big, you can be out in the middle of nowhere and still be near the ocean which is not true for most coastline, and there is still a feeling of old fashioned honesty and down homeness and self sufficiency and yankeeness which makes me feel at home and rather cozy. I like the lack of pretention on the part of most Mainiacs. I also don't mind the cold because I like to ski and I like snow and I like to look at the ocean and walk on the beach whether it is cold, warm, hurricaning, sand sandblasting the hell out of you, or whatever. It's beautiful regardless.

Maine is a great place to live if you don;t mind black flies and misquitos in the summer and cold winters.
