Maine is a beautiful state but I have found that the beauty has been very expensive. Moved here 9 years ago from Massachusetts and have watched my taxes triple such that I am paying more than I was in Massachusetts when I had property on a lake. People are only friendly in a very superficial way and you will find that there are many that will take advantage of you because you are "from away". This is the case with many of the local contractors so you must be very careful with the ones that you choose. I literally could write a book that would describe what we have been through here and at a point where we really want to leave. Need to really think twice before you move here unless you are very wealthy.
