cost of living out of control - 2/28/2011

Massachusetts is pricing right out of our home. Values decline & taxes go up. Going South real soon!

Brutal Winters, especially to a South FLoridian - 2/15/2011

Boston is awesome in non-winter months. The other seasons are quite beautiful here. There's lots to do, parks are beautiful, lots of museums to see and history to check out. When winter hits, it's a different story for me. I don't feel like getting out in freezing temps and I end up spending a lot of time inside. If you are looking to move up here and you were born and raised in warm weather like me, I rec you come up for a visit for a few days during winter before making your decision to move.

Must be a better solution - 11/6/2010

Careful u newcomers to Mass especially on the major roads (both interstate and state routes). In the wisdom of our transportation specialists their solution to the vehicle overcrowding is to allow driving in the breakdown lanes during peak hours. And that lane is subsequently converted to a high speed lane. Be watchfull and be on the lookout.

Cpae Cod - 3/29/2010

I moved to the area for work and spouse, neither of which remain in my life. I enjoy the beautiful area but have only been here over the past two winters, which are harsh. I have been told the summers are gorgeous and I can believe that...however the traffic is going to be horible. My saving grace is Boston which is up the road about an hour (just as bustling, I know! but offers more for my needs). Cape Cod is a beautiful place to have a summer house.

It's not about Boston, it's not about Massachusett - 2/15/2010

Boston, and Massachusetts in general seems to generate a lot of controversy. One common complaint--the high cost of housing--is ample evidence of life quality high enough to be worth paying for. When paired with the infamous weather, clearly there must be something else going right. The best place to live is the place where you feel at home. So, it's natural and even beneficial that we all don't agree. That's what so great about Sperling's Best Places--over the years it has enabled my husband and I to make the choices that are right for us. Having lived in the Boston suburbs for twelve years (making me a relative newcomer), after half a lifetime in California, a stint in Canada, and familiarity with each of the Lower 48 states, we fit in here because of the overlap between what Massachusetts has to offer and who we are. One is in touch with Nature here--forests, rivers, hills and sea. The people are smart, the people are real. They have a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor. The place is imbued with history, but we live near a high-tech corridor. As a teacher, I can vouch for the quality of the school systems (oh-and snowstorms mean snow days!). We've got our teams and their passionate fans. But, for us, what counts are the libraries! This is library paradise! While the town libraries are linked into systems that allow for shared borrowing privileges, usually each library is a unique jewel, reflecting the richness of its past and subsequent modernization. That goes for all of Massachusetts as well. There are a lot of great cities and cultures in America--this happens to be ours.

Relocating soon... - 7/21/2009

Hello all out there in the 'Boston' area I am looking to relocate within the next few months and I really want to get it right the first time. I'm looking for reasonably affordable cost of living, good quality of life, diverse neighbors, weather not too bad (tolerable), near community i.e. market, park etc... I know sounds too good to be true but it's either Boston or "Mayberry" LOL! Thanks all for helping me to find that perfect place to live in Massachusetts.

House prices greatly inflated east of I-190 / 395 - 5/18/2009

West of 190/395, you'll find great value, and the Mass Pike (I-90) can get you into Boston almost as quickly as living inside of the 495 belt. Go west!

I Love Granville MA- It is really beautiful, lots - 11/22/2008

My partner & I like kayaking, hiking, Motorcycle rides, 4 wheeling, x-c skiing, rollerblading and viewing the wildlife. There are lots of wild turkeys, bears, beavers, geese, and even saw one moose in 10 yrs. Cultural stuff is a bit of a ride; 45 min to 1 hr & 15 min away. We are close to Hartford Ct, Springfield MA, & Western Ma. There a x-c ski area a few miles away, but the snow is much better in Pittsfield MA which is about a hr away. It is a great place to raise a family. I am originally from NC. I miss the southern hospitality of the south. There are lots of friendly New England folks, but it was a real cultural shock moving to MA from NC. There are so many places to play in New England- VT, NH, NY, ME & RI are with in one to five hrs away. Cape Cod is nice. We like the rail trails at the Cape and near our house: Granby CT, Lanesboro MA, and Hillsdale NY. If you are thinking of coming to Granville or the area to visit, I would recommend the Fall. The colors are really stunning.

New England Weather - 10/29/2008

I have to say that if an individual wants to experience the full scope of changing seasons, move to New England. There's a little bit of everything and always changing at that! Humid, windy, cold, scorching it runs the gammon.

Is it true that people in Massachusetts are very r - 10/21/2008

I have being living in Florida for 8 years but I am originally from South America. I came to the US to go to college, during those college years I met my husband who is from Massachusetts and who didn’t want to move to Latin America. Now we have almost 3 years married and he wants to go back to Mass in the next year or so…. But I am kind of afraid since every blog that I read about living in Mass you will find people being racist against Latin people or making reference that people are racist in the state. People here in Florida are used to people with accents and it doesn’t matter your nationality you will find a good job and friends from every where in the world. I just don’t want to be miserable there. I am not looking for a Latin community either and I am used to rude people... we have lots here. Could anyone be honest and tell me the reality of a Latin girl graduated is the States and married to American guy should expect from Mass?
