Better Place For Our Family - 1/17/2014

I am a native of Miami Dade County, Florida. I have lived here all of my life, but the place I grew up in is nothing like the place it is today. The cost of living is through the roof and the pay is below the standard cost of living. A degree counts for nothing in the job market here, because unemployment is substantially high and you have more educated people applying for the same positions, so employer can get away with pay ridiculously low wages. People here no longer speak English as the first language. Spanish is the norm. You will always be addressed in Spanish, before being addressed in English. The crime rate is through the roof and 70% of people are on welfare. There is always someone trying to hustle or scam you out of money. Business owners here have a hard time collecting revenue for services rendered. It is a terrible place for the middle class family, trying to raise well rounded, law abiding family.

No Value for your Money - 12/25/2012

I have lived in Miami since 1993. I moved here from Central America and must say I am itching to get out. Let's start with how expensive it is. The "good" neighborhoods are far in between and I can count them with one hand. That being said, even if you sacrifice and pay the price to live in a top notch neighborhood you're not guaranteed a school to match. The very FEW public schools that are reputable are also the same ones that bus in the kids from the poorer section therefore ruining the demographics and bringing in some of the crime you "paid" to get your kids away from. Then there's the traffic. My joke is that everyone here is an undercover taxi driver because that's all people here seem to do: DRIVE! Morning rush hour, lunch rush hour, afternoon rush hour...it never ends. Top that with majority who don't respect the traffic laws, are unaware that the left lane is for PASSING and the overall rudeness and road rage that prevails here...well, it makes you want to run for the hills (not drive). The superficiality of this city is like no other. Tinseltown of the east coast mixed in with the the overall lack of IQ leaves you scratching your head. And yes, the population is diverse. People from all over but not necessarily the cream of the crop. More like the uneducated trash that thrives on the "lifestyle". People here have no interest in learning about anything that doesn't revolve around Miami or South Beach. The only good thing I have to say about Miami is that it's warm all year round. But if you're longing for a warm place to raise your family skip Miami and head elsewhere.

New Start - 6/30/2012

I am a single parent of a 10 yr old and I live in Miami-Dade county Fla . I have been living here all my life . The cost of living is thru the ROOF , the area that I live in has 80% of crime on a daily . But the good thing is everyone is like a big family , most people have grown up with each other and our kids are doing the same thing . Ever thing is near by if you dont have a car , the schools are wonderful and hands on . I just need a new start where my son can be able to do all the same things he does now without to much change and less crime as well as less cost . But i cant move out of this state all of my famliy is here and that would be a HUG drawback for my son since he is so close to my mom and dad . Please tell me what cities in fla are best for me . Thanks

Pats in Miami - 2/18/2012

Miami is not a good place for pets! High temperatures and ignorant people = a disaster for animals. Due to the largly high latin culture in Miami, we have plenty of diversity and that is a bonus, but not for animals. People leave them tied up, left outdoors in heat and often abandoned.People here think they are objects and have no concerns for them.

Great place to live, if you're rich - 2/18/2012

Miami was named #1 and West Palm Beach #3 most miserable places to live in the US by a major magazine. There are beautiful safe areas but 99% of us can't afford to live there. The rest of the area is still expensive but has a high violent crime rate. "Florida Move Guide" says that high unemployment, high crime, high foreclosures, low wages for most jobs and high humidity 9-10 months a year combine to make South FL anything but paradise. Use the stats on Sperling to check out any place you are thinking of moving to, you don't want to be the next victim.

Only the most expensive areas are safe! - 1/27/2012

If you are wealthy there are areas that are safe in the Miami Ft LTDL area to live. The Florida Move Guide warns to check the crime stats of any area you nare thinking of moving. The cheapest home prices and rents usually mean high crime areas that you will not be happy living in.

Want a safe place to live in Miami? - 1/17/2012

Then you better have a ton of money! There are relatively safe areas to live in the Miami area, usually close to the beach but you have to be one of the 1% to be able to afford it. The rest of us 99% would have to live in mostly high crime areas. According to the "Florida Move Guide", the cost of living is high and the area has a high turn over rate. Many move to FL looking for paradise but over 1000 people a day move out of FL. 9 months of hot/humid weather isn't for everyone.

Raised in NYC moved to Miami. - 12/6/2011

Whether is Broward, Miami, Homestead, South Beach, Miami lakes, or Kendal, South Florida is the worst place to live if you plan on raising kids here. This place lacks culture, diversity (not only Hispanics) and humility. I have been here for 5 years now and hate it!! Don't be fooled yes its beautiful but to vacation. Almost everyone has the same mentality that is passed on from generation to generation and rooted from years of suppression in other countries. The real freedom of America is not seen here. Education is not a priority. Teachers with degrees from other countries and heavy accents are teaching our students to read. Money is a priority here and everyone has a hustle. In the work place skill is not a requirement is who you know and where you come from. Labor laws are non-existent here since everyone is dispensable to that one worker who is willing to work for less pay and no benefits. This is a mentality brought here from other countries without labor laws or civil rights. A mentality adopted by the average worker here. And is the normal here. Yes woman, you can say woman are beautiful here and that depends on what you consider beautiful. And by that, I don't mean the latest boob job. Even the weather lady at the local news channel looks like she came out of a playboy magazine. This is the American dream here in South Florida. Don't Move here if you value union rights, education, real diversity, culture and originality. ;) Thank me later!

Must be rich to be safe here, there are much bette - 11/18/2011

There are a few nice areas to live in Miami but you must have a lot of money to live there. Outside those areas its dangerous, like living in a 3rd world country filled with poverty and crime. According to FBI statistics, Miami is one of the most dangerous cities in the US. There are much better places to live a better live in Florida near beautiful beaches and for a lot less money.

Traffic in Miami - 10/22/2011

Coming from Wisconsin, it was quite the culture shock to come to South Florida....For any Wisconsinite who reads this, you will know what I mean. Just last week I heard on the radio that Miami had the worst traffic in the US and also the Rudest drivers...I believe this to be true! I have never in all my driving career which has been 40 years, seen such rude and thoughtless driving as those in Miami. I have gotten to the point that job or no job, I am making my husband move me back to Wisconsin. People don't know how to be kind and let someone merge or know how to use a blinker. If they have lights out on their car, be it headlights, tail lights or brake lights, they don't get them fixed, they just keep driving dangerously without them. The police in Wisconsin will pull you over for that infraction, in Florida they just speed by you, which to me is the crux of the problem. The other thing I have a real problem with is that when an emergency vehicle comes up with lights and siren going, people just keep driving and don't let them get to where they are going to help the injured or dying people. I often wish that anyone who impedes the progress of these emergency vehicles will have the ones they love lay dying while waiting for the ambulance to get through to them. This would never happen in Wisconsin where we immediately pull over to let them through. Having said all this, I wish everyone who resides here luck in navigating the sea of impatient and rude people who do not care about their fellow human being....I am going back to sanity and nice people.....
