What BestPlaces Users Say about Gilbert

Gilbert, Arizona is a suburb located southeast of Phoenix. It has been recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, and is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, low crime rates, and strong sense of community. However, like any other place, it also has its own unique set of pros and cons. In this summary, we will take a look at some user reviews about living in Gilbert, Arizona and gain insights into the experiences of those who have actually lived there.

From personal experiences, there are many things that I enjoy in Gilbert, AZ. First and foremost, it is known for its safe and friendly environment. Crime rates are low and people are generally welcoming and helpful. The city is also well-planned and has a variety of amenities such as parks, restaurants, and shopping centers. The weather is mostly sunny and warm, making it perfect for outdoor activities all year round. However, the cost of living can be quite high, especially in terms of housing and property taxes. Also, the traffic can get hectic during rush hour. – Sarah M.

My husband and I moved to Gilbert, AZ for his job and we absolutely love it here. We have two young kids and this place is just perfect for raising a family. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe, and there are plenty of good schools in the area. The community is very close-knit and we have made many friends since moving here. The only downside for us is the lack of diversity, but overall, we couldn't be happier living in Gilbert. – Amanda J.

I have lived in Gilbert, AZ for almost 10 years now and I have seen it change a lot. While it is still a great place to live, it has certainly become more crowded and expensive. The traffic has also gotten much worse as the population has increased. However, the city has done a good job of keeping up with the growth by building new infrastructure and amenities. There are also plenty of job opportunities here, which is a big plus. – Jason P.

I had high expectations for Gilbert, AZ when I moved here, but unfortunately, I have been disappointed. While it is a relatively safe and well-maintained city, I find it to be too cookie-cutter and lacking in character. The restaurant and entertainment options are limited and there is not much to do here for young adults. Also, the cost of living keeps increasing, making it difficult for lower-income families to afford to live here. – Maria K.

Small Town feel mixed with Urbanism. - 4/7/2024
Gilbert should be compared to the Midwest in the sense that despite the size of the buildings being 5 stories tall in Mixed Use Areas, it retains the small town feeling, and there seems to be an understanding of how to integrate uses together rather than segmenting them apart from each other. Agritopia is a huge hit and is a highlight of how to do Mixed Use correctly that feels like it's apart of the town's character than to just build out quickly, i hope there is more throughout it because the walkability of this town is definitely up there with Tempe and Phoenix, but keeps it's character while doing so.

It's a safe normal blue collar town that is similar to Chandler, and has some excellent school districts as a whole. I would recommend anyone interested in the things i said to go out and see for themselves and if they like it move here. Like one user said the only downside is that there is not much transit and it could definitely use a Train at the Verde Station and Read More

Good Walkability, Mixed Use, Safe. Lacks Transit. - 11/16/2023
My Dad lives in Gilbert and i live nearby due to proximity of Mesa and visit Gilbert a lot. I can definitely say Gilbert is a hidden gem of a town that knows how to build smartly than it's neighboring cities and towns, due to it's focus on Walkability and Mixed Use. Like the Epicenter Agritopia and even the new Verde At The Cooley Station that is beginning to spring up with 600 apartments. It is very walkable and has tons of amenities that are nearby for those that live there to play or eat at. Not a lot of places have the ability to give you the car lite or car free lifestyle unless you live in an upscale area. Also crime is not an issue in Gilbert. it has beautiful weather and even has a vibrant downtown, and some of the best Micro Hospitals in the valley. The only thing it lacks is Transportation like a BRT system or a streetcar that can go Downtown and go into the Verde Station and Agritopia etc. Read More

Thoughts from a Midwest Transplant - 5/27/2019
The reason I chose to write a review is because, while a few were indeed quite concise & accurate (looking at you, J.T.), some were astonishingly biased and/or isolated critiques that painted this small city with a broad brush. I, therefore, thought I would offer my perspective.

My review needs to be qualified as insight coming from a "transplant" rather than a native-born Arizonian. My bride & I have no kids, and we relocated in 2011 from the Midwest. I will only offer a review to what I have repeatedly experienced -- climate, housing/crime, roads, culture, shopping & entertainment, commute and friendliness -- and will leave out categories with little-to-no personal exposure.

With that in mind, for those readers with children, my exposure to the educational system as a resident without kids is quite limited to the same sources that any person can obtain online: beter-than-average elementary and high school (Gilbert High). Like everything else, parenting and Read More

Gilbert AZ a wonderful place to live - 4/12/2017
A family friendly town with great schools and low crime. The people are friendly, there's plenty of shopping, and easy commute to Phoenix etc. We have experienced a great deal of growth in the last several years and that is expected to continue. There are lots of great restaurants and activities to enjoy.  Read More

Good area for children - 1/1/2014
Hello my husband just accepted a job offer in Tempe and I have been doing research on what areas around there offer the best schools for my children. We are moving from Nevada and understand the whole living in the desert and you stay inside for 2-3 months in the hot months. I have read several posts about Gilbert being a really good place to raise your family. I need to know if it is a safe place. As I said my husbands job will be in Tempe and would like to keep the commute under 45 min. I am looking for some insight on good areas to live in that have low crime rates and a school rating. Right now I am using a great school for my focal point in finding a place to locate to might but if a town is out there that might be a better choice please let me Read More

Gilbert Is A Great City For Families - 4/2/2013
I have lived in Gilbert for almost 10 years now, and have nothing but great things to say about it. I built my own business here in Gilbert providing custom welding, pool fencing, custom gates and fences, along with custom auto fabrication and welding and absolutely love my customers in Gilbert and the surrounding east valley. It is a great place to live and raise a family, and the reason that I have stayed and kept my business here. www.guerrillafab.com  Read More

I miss having four seasons - 9/4/2012
In the Phoenix area, we have two seasons, not so hot and HOT! My personal aesthetic taste is for a place that has trees, water, and outdoor recreation no matter what time of year it may be. I liken our summers to the harsh winters in other parts of the country. We are literally indoors for the majority of 6 months because it is just too hot to be Read More
