Getting expensive - 1/6/2007
Boca Raton is a great place to live I guess. But you have to have money. I can see the draw for retirees, but raising a family here is prohibitive unless you've got the high six figure income and want a place to show off your money, your Hummer and your plastic surgery. If that's you, then come on down! Don't expect a great education for your kids, and expect to pay thousands for hurricane insurance every Read More

Beautiful Weather in Boca Raton, Florida - 8/15/2006
If you love warm weather with a breeze (May thru October average 87 to 90 degrees) and balmy weather with a breeze (Nov thru April average 76 to 83 degrees) then South Florida may be the place for you! I think the winter weather is perfect and I can hardly wait for late November.
If however you like seasonal changes, sorry, it hardly ever gets cold here.
Cost of insurance is pretty high, so is property tax, but there is no state income tax. The average price of a single family home has gone too high for most people, although if you look north of West Palm Beach, the prices are Read More

Growing like mad. Absurd housing prices. Otherwise has excellent schools, shopping, transportation, near 3 airports (Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale, Miami), hurricanes are a fact of life, insurance rates are becoming very Read More

Boca Raton, The Goldilocks City - 5/2/2006
Boca Raton offers a great combination of suburban and city life. By day, there are A-rated schools, beaches, museums, golf, tennis, spa treatments, shopping, airboat rides and nature reserves. By night there is dancing, multi-cultural dining and entertainment. Unlike many neighboring cities, Boca is NOT one big suburb with one or two malls. For me it is just perfect not too old and established as in Palm Beach and not too young and wild like South Read More

Relocation - 3/11/2006
Have been living overseas for years and am contemplating returning as empty nester with my partner. Fit, mid-50's, retired. Most important considerations security, health and plenty of sun. Can be individual property or gated community with facilities.
PS - Have selected state & city since I was coerced to do so but am open to other suitable states and Read More

Getting OUT! - 1/4/2006
I agree with a previous poster who stated that there are many rude and obnoxious people in this town. There are excellent city services, beautiful weather and great cultural activities. However, the housing costs, taxes and traffic have forced us to look elsewhere for the long haul. Too many retirees and rude people have pushed us over the Read More

Mixed feelings - 1/3/2006
My family loves the weather and of course the beach. We find many of the people truely obnxious, aggressive and extremely pushy. Expect horn blowing, foul language and elderely folks exclaming "This is the worse bank, restaurant, flight , mall etc. that I have ever been at!" Most of the people are from New York and at times it feels more like Brooklyn than the Southern United States.
On the other hand many of the people are dynamic, humorous and support excellent public schools ( compared to the remainder of Florida).
I have had the opportunity to live in Redondo Beach, California, Diamond Head, Hawaai, Oregon, Dallas, Houston, New York, and Indiana and still have not found the perfect place but have found all of these places enjoyable including the New York winters and the Houston Read More

Exclusive Retirees - 10/16/2005
Mostly gated communities wth golf courses and expensive homes. Driving around, all you can see is walls and gates. It's odd, and I'm not sure how anyone could socialize and be happy here without wealth. Unfortunately the people who live outside those gates are poor, or a part of a very small middle class. There are good white collar jobs available, but there's still a significant affordability gap between salaries and the cost of an average Read More
