What BestPlaces Users Say about Flagler Beach

Flagler Beach, Florida is a small coastal town located in Flagler County. It is known for its beautiful beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and friendly community. With a population of just over 5,000, it is a popular destination for retirees and families. However, like any place, it has its pros and cons. Reading through the user reviews on bestplaces.net, it is clear that many people have different opinions about living in Flagler Beach. Some praise the town for its charm and natural beauty, while others criticize its lack of job opportunities and higher cost of living. Let's take a closer look at what some users have to say about their experiences living in Flagler Beach.

1) "I have lived in Flagler Beach for over 20 years and it truly is a hidden gem. The beaches are pristine and not overcrowded like other popular Florida destinations. The community is tight-knit and welcoming, and there are plenty of local events and festivals to enjoy. It's the perfect place to retire or raise a family." - Linda S.

2) "I moved to Flagler Beach for the laid-back lifestyle, but I have to say, it's not for everyone. It's a small town with limited job opportunities, so if you're looking for career advancement, this may not be the place for you. The cost of living is also higher than I expected. But, if you can make it work, the beach and ocean views are worth it." - Mark T.

3) "I've been living in Flagler Beach for a few years now and I love it. The people here are friendly and welcoming, and there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. However, I do wish there were more options for dining and nightlife. It can get a bit quiet after dark, especially during the off-season." - Jillian R.

4) "I can't say enough good things about Flagler Beach. The natural beauty is breathtaking, and the local businesses and restaurants are top-notch. I appreciate the slower pace of life and the small-town feel. It's a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life." - David B.

Unique Characteristics of Flagler Beach - 11/21/2009
Flagler Beach has a few characteristics that make it geographically unique:

1. It is the closest beach to I-95 along the entire eastern US coast (approx. 3 mi.).

2. It is the only beach in Florida where A1A runs right alongside the ocean, with no buildings east of the highway (save for 1 restaurant and 1 B&B at the south end of town) and no obstruction of the ocean view. You can pull off of A1A, park at the top of the dunes, and walk down any number of dune walks right onto the beach.

3. It is a very narrow barrier island, allowing for both river and Ocean views from single-family homes (at the north end of town). Anywhere else you would have to be in a high rise.

There are no chain hotels nor chain restaurants in Flagler Beach, giving it a unique small-town ambience that is hard to find in Florida with its tourism-dominated Read More

Flagler Beach - 11/4/2009
Flagler beach is pretty cool. Crime rate is more than a 4 out of 10. Probably more like a 6. Theres alot of alcoholics and surf bums, the center of town can get a little crazy at night. But its a nice town. Southside is nice. Northside Flagler is a little bit less ritzy, especially the closer you get to Beverly beach. I've lived here most of my life and I've liked it Read More
