Winter Park is a Lovely Place if You Earn Plenty - 11/25/2009
As far as towns in Florida go, I think Winter Park is a lovely little village. However, one must have plenty of money to live here. I am an
administrative assistant who earns about $30,000 per year (after 15 years
in the same position at a local academic institution). I rent a two-bedroom apartment 3 miles from the center of town for $810. Public transportation is practically non-existant;the county bus service is unreliable and runs about once per hour. To save money, I walk to work. (Riding a bicycle is quite dangerous in Central Florida.) People brag about the warm weather (Yes, it is very warm all the time!) and I have the huge air conditioning bills to prove it. I feel I had an overall better quality of life back in New England. It is my dream to return to New Hampshire, Vermont, or Massachusetts someday.[read more...] |

Winter Park Florida: - 2/19/2007
The town is splendid for a suburban village in an urban environment. The climate is delightful throughout most of the year. The months of August and September can be a bit warm.
The City's core has a lovely park, restuarants, shops, and is very walkable. The people are friendly and enjoy a cross section of outdoor activities. The community upholds the tradition of public and private education making sure both are very good.
It is a very nice place to live.[read more...] |

Apartment living is through the roof here - 1/12/2007
I am posting this mainly for people who are coming here looking for an apartment to live. I moved here 2 years ago to attend college here and I am ready to get out of here. The cost of living has EXPLODED here. In just the 2 years I have been here, our rent has gone from $820 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment and it is getting ready to be $1080 a month for the same apartment. I have also heard that housing has gone up a lot as well, but I cannot confirm that. All that I know is that the school I attend is having a very hard time hiring new teachers, because the school can't pay them enough to compete with the high cost of living.
Take my advice, if you are interested near Orlando, do not pick Winter Park. This city is way overpriced and everyone here thinks way too much of themselves.[read more...] |

Museums - 11/21/2005
Located on Park Avenue across from Rollins College. The best museum there is the Morse Museum: it has original Tiffany stained glass, jewelry, pottery, paintings, lamps, etc. It is a must see and it is only a couple of bucks to get in. It is the best place on Park Avenue in my opinion. Go to www.morsemuseum.org for more info! :)[read more...] |
