Macon "The block" - 7/5/2023
Macon is great, the thing I like about Macon is it's just an extension of Atlanta, like you wouldn't know the difference. The politics are the same, the people are the same, everything is the Read More

Great place to live, work and play. - 1/20/2023
I moved to Macon seven years ago and have found the people to be welcoming, the restaurants wonderful, the downtown vibrant and so many activities to get involved with. And it is the absolute BEST place to be in the spring during the Cherry Blossom festival. You don't want to miss downtown during the holidays either - fun and festive. I highly recommend Macon as a great place to live, work and Read More

Macon is a perfect example of what Southern whites most feared in the 50-60s when there was the big push to bus blacks in to vote. The expected disaster occurred and is still Read More

It Is What You Make It - 12/23/2020
I've survived thus far. Sure, Macon can be a little rough around the edges. It's kind of caught in the middle of Atlanta and Miami, so you can guess what goes on here. Cops are running short on manpower and we just set a record for murder this year. I live in a rural area of town, Jones Cty, with a Macon address. So it is possible to find a nice home at a great price and avoid the melee of the city. Jones Cty has great public schools and Macon has great private schools. Demographics are quite lopsided, but I don't feel there is racial tension - but then again, I'm white. The city is zoned oddly and as one end rises the other end falls. I've seen it twice in the 16 years I've lived here. Stay out of the high crime areas after hours and you'll be fine. The Air Force base provides a great opportunity for employment. All told, if I could leave, I would. But it looks like I'll have to wait to retire.  Read More

Population growth - 7/2/2018
I lived in Macon, GA for most of my life. It should be noted that a large portion of the population growth reported is a result of the City of Macon merging with Bibb County. Otherwise, I think you’d find the city’s population on the Read More

Lost in Time - 6/11/2018
Macon,Georgia was once a great city , but now Macon has declined to the point of bankruptcy.Crooked politicians and greedy community leaders who stuffed their pockets with hard earned taxpayers money are to blame for the demise of this city. The school system is horrible, taxes are at an all time high and crime is rampant. Want to buy a house is Macon, you can and a rock bottom price! Real estate values are at the bottom with everyone wanting to sell. Read More

Charming place to live - 3/11/2018
Macon has been progressing so quickly lately. Downtown is fantastic. Tons of newly renovated lifts apartments, condos, restaurants. This city has charm and lots of history. Parks all over town have been upgraded. I love living here. The downtown community is very engaged and given our proximity to Atlanta and lower cost of living Macon is a fantastic choice. Choose to live downtown or in north Read More

Not a great place especially for young people - 7/22/2017
Macon is not a place I would really recommend anyone raising their children and if you happen to live there then stay in northern macon since that's the only place with the least crime and pretty good schools. The south side of macon is infested with crime and the buildings there look so dilapidated and high unemployment rates. The downtown area aint that great, it looks old and outdated but for sure it has some good restaurants. If you are stuck in macon and feel that it is not fit for you then you could alternatively shift to warner robins which is the next town. Warner robins has some decent schools and filled with military stuff since there is a huge base there (warner robins AFB). The other downside of macon is that it's really boring and there is no much activities or any sort of entertainment although warner robins has. In short I would mainly advise young people to refrain from macon or anywhere in central Read More

graduation rate at Southwest HS is up to 38%!! Difficult to sell a house when people moving to Macon look at the public education system, high crime yet highest percentage of churches per capita in the nation, lousy public education, ghetto mentality, cliquish if you are not born here, having been here almost 20 years, originally from the Northeast, I can not wait to Read More
