Not heaven on earth - 9/12/2013
Binghamton is a dumping ground for surplus nyc area welfare recipients. They can't fill houses fast enough to replace all the skilled and educated who have fled along with their jobs. The few remaining tax payers are forced to pay for housing for a large population of drug dealers. As an added bonus it's full people with a "what are you lookin at" attitude. Read More

I have lived in Binghamton for the past 11 yrs., my husband has been here all of his life. We enjoy live music, biking, and golf. This area has limited biking, several nice, inexpensive golf courses, and virtually no live music. We are able to enjoy the outdoors for approximately 6 months out of the year, the other 6 months are spent holed up in our home, and shoveling snow. We travel to surrounding smaller communities that have live music and more activities.
We plan on retiring in the next 3 yrs. and are working on our plan to relocate to a sunnier (winter months are heavily overcast more often than not), warmer climate. Read More

Time to move on - 9/25/2010
This area lost alot of income with the demise of IBM, but it was also polluted with its presence.

Now, impending gas drilling will take away what is left of the area by destroying the natural beauty, air and water quality.

There are a (very) few impressive and progressive minds in the area whom I will miss, but the cost is too high for me to continue to raise my child here. I have to find a new place to call Read More

Long winters but overall a very nice place. - 8/2/2010
I spent a year in Binghamton 20 years ago and admittedly, I've only been back once, so I really can't speak for how it is today but I found it to be a very likeable city. It is quite safe and has some very attractive areas. There's actually more to do than you might think for a city of its size. People were very pleasant and I enjoyed the time I was there. My only thing was I found the winter to be very long but who knows? I was only there one year, maybe it isn't like that all the time.  Read More

Binghamton is a nice family oriented , small college town, the traffic not too bad , Crime isn't so bad , limited mostly to parts of the city,
Major problem is the cold weather , and weather related , such as snow and ice, November to March , and occassionally October and April, sometimes flooding can be a problem.
Cold is the reason we want to move to Read More

Economy and Employment - 6/18/2008
While Binghamton is charming to look at, with lots of old beautiful Victorian homes, finding gainful employment is somewhat of a challenge. Government county jobs are popular to get and are viewed as good paying. The average employment section in the newspaper and online consists of 1/3 of jobs that one would expect to find. Neighborhoods are also deceptive. Beautiful areas are often high crime areas. For such a small area there are a lot of homeless shelters. If you were not born in the area, you will probably not develop the attatchment to it that locals Read More

Great entertainment for everyone - 3/29/2008
Binghamton has many diverse attractions available for everyone. Art walks, minor league baseball and hockey teams, a symphony, a zoo, many museums, gorgeous parks, antique carousels, lots of modern music venues, shopping and a huge amount of local and chain restaurants. This only covers the main highlights, but since moving here in 2002, I've had a wonderful Read More
