Great place for retirement - 11/7/2010

Bought a home here 6 years ago in a community that has a section for over 55 yr old buyers. This is an affordable, good quality of life area. Conway is nicely located close to a major airport and close to the beach. There is also a steady stream of culture that comes through the Myrtle Beach area so there is a little bit for everyone. Housing has remained pretty stable although it has dipped like the rest of the country. I plan to use the area as a base of opperation to stay a few months out of the year and then to travel some. There are a few drawbacks that you need to be aware of.... Many people come to the area in the summer for the beaches or the fall and spring for the golf which creates a little congestion and Rt 501 is one of the only pass throughs... There are a few new roads being built which will at least solve some of the congestion going north and south.... bit east and west will continue to be an issue for a few years. Myrtle Beach which is about 15 minutes away also attracts many families during the summer but it is no worse than other tourist destinations. All in all, I am pleased with the area and look forward to moving there permanently in a few years. [read more...]

The Saudi Arabia of the United States - 5/4/2006

I was born here. I moved out of the state over to Los Angeles CA in 2000. After a few years of being not being productive enough, not being positive and getting mixed up with losers I blamed the city for my disappoints and moved back I forgot about how high the unemployment rate is here Or how hard it is to get a job unless you know somebody Or how how green with envy people can be here Or how how high the poverty rate is Or how there is not a clearly overall developed business cycle Or how construction is booming but you never see help wanted ads Or how progress is measured in decades instead of days weeks and months Or how low the educational intellect is How they keep saying SC is just black and white. But the Blacks are too stupid to realize that most of these whites owned tem a 200 years ago Or how the state is a right to employ not right to work Or how almost the entire economy is dependent on the 4 month out f the year tourism that Myrtle Beach brings and how it turns into a ghost town right after Sure they'll tell you how great the lowcountry is...until you notice the lack of proper industry development goes hand in hand with the low quality of life I’d take the chaos of Los Angeles over the quiet of this town. It may seem unbleivable but the quality of life in a big city is still much higher than the average small town Its just what you make of it [read more...]
