Racist, ignorant, worst place in the world! - 10/13/2021
The entire Isle of Wight area is incredibly racist and a good old boys town. I came to the Hampton Roads area to get away from the racism in the mountains. The areas of Newport News, Suffolk, and Chesapeake were not racist. Smithfield is incredibly racist. They also do not want anyone from outside of the area around in any way, shape or form. When I went out to eat there would be families out that are of another race and they were almost dead silent while eating. My family and I were treated very different because we are originally from New England. It is the worst place that I have been to in the entire world. I have lived in South America and have traveled to 23 countries. I will never return to the Isle of Wight.

Smithfield is a secret gem - 6/25/2006
Living in Smithfield is like a dream come true. Little or no traffic, rarely any crime, lovely countryside, and a slow, Southern pace to life. Smithfield is not very large, but it is only 30-40 minutes away from a fairly large airport, major shopping, theatre and cultural events. Downtown Smithfield is full of quaint antique stores, various shops and a few charming restaurants. Those who live there would like to keep it all a secret...and never have things become the nightmare that they have in any number of cities in the Tidewater
