What BestPlaces Users Say about Evanston

Located in the southwestern corner of Wyoming, Evanston is a small city with a population of just over 12,000. With its close proximity to the Uinta Mountains and easy access to outdoor recreational activities, it's no surprise that Evanston has been named one of the best places to live in Wyoming. However, like any city, it also has its fair share of pros and cons. In this context, we will take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net to gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Evanston.

According to many user reviews, one of the best things about living in Evanston is its small-town charm and friendly community. One user, named Emily, describes it as "a close-knit community where people are always willing to lend a helping hand." Another reviewer, Carol, echoes this sentiment by saying, "Evanston has a real sense of community and people truly care about each other."

However, not all reviews are positive. Some users point out the lack of job opportunities in Evanston as a major downside. As Jennifer puts it, "Unless you work in the service industry, there are not many job options in Evanston." Another user, Alex, also mentions the limited career opportunities and suggests that "those looking for work may have to commute to neighboring cities."

Another aspect that receives mixed reviews is the cost of living in Evanston. While some users find it affordable, others think it's on the higher side for a small town. As stated by Mark, "The cost of living is relatively high for a town this size." Conversely, Jessica says, "The cost of living is reasonable, and there are plenty of affordable housing options in Evanston."

Finally, one common complaint among users is the harsh weather in Evanston. As Daniel points out, "The winters can be long and bitterly cold, which can be tough for some people." Similarly, Diane shares, "The weather in Evanston can be extreme, with hot summers and very cold winters."

Overall, the user reviews for Evanston on BestPlaces.net paint a picture of a small town with a strong sense of community, but also with some drawbacks such as limited job opportunities and harsh weather. Ultimately, as with any place, it's important to do thorough research and weigh the pros and cons before deciding to make it your home.

Massive ignorance. I was attracted to this town because it's small, easy to get around and there's a Walmart, grocery store, post office, library, mechanic and a bad police department. MonkeyShines laundromat is clean and monitored by a cowboy named Randy who's a nice guy. Westar printing is great for copies and printing. But as others have written, it's cliquey--almost everyone is related and there are a lot of LDS. Most of the people running the businesses seem mean. Unless you fit right in it will be hard to find a job or anyone you want to be friends with. After two years here, am leaving and will not be back. Life is too short.  Read More

If you weren't raised here you are not wanted - 5/8/2021
I felt like I didn't belong here nor did I feel welcome here . The people in this town are rude and backstabbing . If you are from another state you are not welcome in this town . The people of this town are mostly LDS and have the attitude of being superior . There are prominent families that run this town and have no problem trying to run you out . The residents of this town like to ruin other peoples reputations . They seem to have a problem with people from California in particular. If you are not LDS or live the way they think you should be living your life they are talking about you behind your back the sad thing is they are no better but it makes them feel better to talk about other people to make their lives more satisfactory . This town also has a high suicide ,drug and alcohol rate . Don't get me wrong the town has it's good points Bear River state park is awesome for hikes and picnics . The rec center is really nice and I have met a few good people here . But the majority Read More

You're not from here? Then you're not welcome. - 5/16/2020
I moved here in 2016. That was probably a mistake, which I hope to fix very soon.

Positives: quiet place, no traffic issues, WY has no income tax. There are two really nice things about Evanston: the Bear River State Park is small but really nice for walks or picnics; and the Evanston Recreation Center, which has pretty much all the facilities you could ask for, including two really nice swimming pools. The staff there are all very nice.

Negatives: people here are not friendly. I've tried really hard to get involved in the community, offering to volunteer at a dozen or so local charities and places that said they needed volunteers, but then got the question, "you're not from here, are you?" and suddenly they no longer needed volunteers. I've met a grand total of 3 people in town that have bothered to learn my name and treat me like a neighbor (and all of them were met in a commercial environment.) As someone else said in another review, a few families Read More

Beautiful town just 80 miles north of Salt Lake - 12/16/2019
Evanston is a beautiful little town right on the border of Utah. It's a clean community that honors its history by re-purposing some of their historic buildings. The state park is home to Bison, Elk and other native species. The Bear River Greenway path is incredible for walking, running, biking ,etc. The summers are gorgeous, highly recommend! Read More

Don't bother to stop here. People are rude, companies are leaving. A few promanate families run thing and if you try to compete with say their car dealership they will try to block your business permit. There are great places in Wyoming this town should be on a worst of Wyoming Read More

One of the best places to live - 7/22/2013
Small town of 12,000 65-miles East of Salt Lake City UT. On I-80. 6 traffic lights in town and rush hour is 3-4 vehicles in front of you. Fresh air that actually smells good and easy shopping (even Super Walmart), park within 100' of any store, anytime. The only drawback: High altitude is hard on people such as myself with breathing disorders. I had planned on living out my life here, since '95 but my oxygen level tells me different and I am forced to move to lower ground. Read More
