Review of Torrington, Wyoming

Wow, Roger!
Star Rating - 11/19/2012
I enjoy living in Torrington. Compared to the rest of Wyoming the temperatures are much more mild and it's much less windy. Life is very peaceful here and people are friendly. Appearance wise, Roger has greatly exaggerated the number of properties that look like "junk yards." There are a few, however, especially approaching from the west on Hwy. 26. Concerning his far out conspiracy theory that farmers are driving out industry and keeping the wages low--what a bunch of baloney! Probably the worst part about Torrington is the occasional odors from various sources: the sugar refinery, the ethanol plant, and a couple of different cattle feed lots nearby and the local cattle sale barn within city limits. No place is perfect, and this town has a lot to offer if you want a quiet life, open spaces and some beautiful outdoor recreation at Guernsey and Hawk Springs reservoirs. If you like hunting and fishing, too...this is the place to be.

Since this comment was posted, the sugar factory, ethanol plant, and many Main Street businesses have closed. It's not a conspiracy theory that businesses are unwelcome here. Nine of out ten top employers in the county rely solely or mostly on other people's tax dollars to operate, with the sale barn being the only exception. But if you're retired and have investment income or can work from home (if regular weekly internet outages don't hamper that) then there are plenty, and I do mean plenty of cheap houses to choose from.
