Review of Cheyenne, Wyoming

Western and nice for families with young children
Star Rating - 8/2/2012
Cheyenne definitely has a western feel to it all the large cowboy boot statutes around the city, as well as the Old West Museum. During Cheyenne Frontier Days (the last week in July)there are a lot of things to see and do as long as you don't mind fighting for a spot with all the other people that come to visit Cheyenne that week...

There are a fair amount of things to do for families with children. There are lots of parks, the Greenway (about 30 miles of paved trails), the Botanic Gardens, the Cheyenne State Museum, and the Frontier Mall. In Lions Park there is also the Children's Village, the Pool, and the Putt Hut for mini golf. There is also the Cheyenne Ice & Events Center that has laser tag, mini golf, and ice skating. There are also several golf courses.

Let's consider what this observer forgot to tell you. We will examine this from the standpoint of, first, that which is factual; then I will offer opinion. If Cheyenne is so "nice for families with young children" then why? a. Do fewer American's choose to live in Wyoming than any other state. b. Why more of Cheyenne's college graduates flee the state upon graduating college than any other state. c. Why more people can be found at Walmart at any one time than any social or cultural venue anywhere in the community at least 95 percent of the time, day or night. d. Why Wyoming has among the highest youth incarceration rates in the country. e. Why Cheyenne is, to the best of my knowledge, the only state capital in the U.S. without a 4 year university. Also, it has no major air carrier, no Greyhound service, not even a minor league baseball team which dozens of cities a majority of Americans have never heard of possess. No for opinion: a. Your children will attend school surrounded by the most poorly dressed and groomed students in the U.S. b. The meth heads they go to school with will remain in Cheyenne forever, the one's that go to college and graduate will flee and never come back to a degree unequaled in the U.S., creating a local population of the collectively poorest quality and least sophisticated population of any state capital or city of comparable size in the the U.S. c. They will hate being confined indoors during the 8 months of winter while kids all over the U.S. are outside playing baseball, swimming, etc. Very few Cheyennite's actually hunt, ski, etc. d. They will grow up to be the most unsophisticated, simple minded, and uninteresting children in America, and will grow up in a community which is home to not one single person who is nationally recognized for anything of significance. Again, be rational. Despite low crime, low unemployment (though low pay scales), no state income, and well funded schools, fewer people choose to live in Wyoming than any other state, college graduates flee at unequaled rates, and business development is so low that the town cannot support a major airline, Greyhound, or even a university, there must be reasons for that. The reasons are as stated above.
