Review of Washougal, Washington

read carefully and do your homework

Washougal is a nice little town surrounded by beautiful mountains and right by the Columbia river. It's close to Vancouver and Portland so you can commute and have a decent paying job but still get the small town feel. The only things I would say to be careful of is if you are buying a home here to really do your homework because there is a lot of rental property everywhere and for this being a small community, there are also a lot of sex offenders. I looked on the Clark County website and was expecting a few but to my surprise I found more than 20 and that is not including the ones in nearby Camas. Most of them live right around the center of the city by the town hall where there are schools and daycares nearby. Also, with no curfew imposed on children, the teenagers of the city like to roam until all hours of the night and in the last year and a half, we have had a car stolen, 2 broken into, and countless other mischevious things the kids like to do and the police are unwilling and unable to do anything because Washington Supreme Court says we are violating these children's rights by imposing a curfew on them. If they are under 18, they are considered legal adults anyway and other states and cities seem to be able to have curfews for those under 18 without violating their rights so I don't understand the problem.
