This state is so bad that there isn’t even a law that says you can’t tie your dog to a fence on a 2 ft chain without food or water in 100+ degrees for days.
There is a HUGE drug problem here. Many abandon houses on one side of town (within walking distance of the downtown cultural area) where the drug addicted homeless people stay.
Florence finally opened their first homeless shelter last year. It’s been at capacity since.
When the temp drops below freezing they have no plan for the homeless - no “code blue.” People and pets simply freeze to death.
EVERY Florence local is heavily religious. They go Sunday and Wednesday night. You can not make friends with these people unless you are the same devout Christian type.
The handful of Jews here seem tolerated - if only because “Jewish” doesn’t register on locals radar. They have no idea what Judaism is.
There is no decent Chinese restaurant. One Chinese restaurant was caught taking food back out of their dumpster as serving it to people. King Jefe is good Mexican but non-spicy. You have to add “hot-sauce” yourself for any heat. The waitress doesn’t respond to requests for “make it spicy.”
The cockroaches are EVERYWHERE. Locals call them palmetto bugs but they are huge disease carrying cockroaches.
Yes. Poisonous snakes abound.
Many rapes, muggings, assaults in the downtown cultural district due to the drug addicts.
Many many robberies.
Certain places you can not go at night as are “black” hangouts and VERY dangerous for whites to “trespass” on their territory.
GUNS. EVERYWHERE.
There are even ads on tv for “get a free gun when you buy a truck.” Also tv ads for assault rifles.
Many many Trump supporters. And even a year into his presidency they are still supporting him.
HUGE devide between poor and rich. Black and white.
Movie theatre is gross.
Zero quality entertainment.
No national tours come through here. You have to go to Raleigh or Charleston.
Country is king though no matter where you go in SC or NC.
Community theatre is horrible. Dated shows. Same actors every show. Seats bad. High prices. Kids acting classes were traumatizing to my 14 year old. Other girls in class are mean bitches and teacher is too overwhelmed to control class.
In any normal northern city there are nice apartments and homes, restaurants, entertainment and classes, shopping centers, parks, infrastructure and people.
Here in Florence? No. Nada.
Do not move here.
No income is worth what you will give up and subsequently what horrors you will have to tolerate.
