Review of Pawleys Isla,

Pawleys/Litchfield- a great place to live!
Star Rating - 2/3/2007
Pawleys Island/Litchfield is the best place on the Grand Strand. It's devoid of all the ugly signage, amusement parks and all-you-can-eat calabash restaurants so typical to Myrtle Beach. We moved here from Old Town in Chicago and feel we found our slice of paradise. We bought a home for less than what ours sold for in Chicago and we live a block from the beach on a beautifully-treed half acre lot. Like many of our neighbors, we have a golf cart and even drive it into town to eat and do our errands. Our beach is quiet and peaceful. It's also big, wide and hard-packed (great for running and riding bikes). This is a seasonal vacation area but there's rowdy crowd. Pluses: well-located between Myrtle Beach and Charleston, good schools, friendly people, great restaurants, casual atmosphere, nice shopping, good place for tennis and golf, gorgeous old Live Oaks, scenic creeks, great fishing, Brookgreen Gardens, Huntington Beach State Park, good healthcare, mild winters, many opportunities to start a business, low taxes. Minuses: No park other than the beach, no playground for children other than the public schools, retirees outnumber families (although families increasing), busy Highway 17 cuts through town, hot humid summers, skyrocketing insurance costs for oceanfront homeowners, many flaky service people (i.e., landscapers who don't show, etc.). On the whole, we'll take the good with the bad. We love it here!

I forgot to put the "no" before rowdy crowd. Aside from a few fireworks going off, the beachfront and their vacationers are very peaceful here. Pawleys/Litchfield is an ideal family-oriented vacation spot and a nice place for families to live. Also, there are a few other playgrounds in Georgetown County, not many, but the county is making good strides for substantial recreational improvements.
