Review of Interlachen, Florida

Great potential; when it leaves the dark ages.
Star Rating - 10/1/2010
Lived in the area for 4 years.
I still believe the area itself is high in its potential to be a wonderful place to live, but the people have got to be willing to change. Abundant nature & wildlife. Good fishing & boating are all close by. Not a bad 25 minute drive to Gainesville (Home of UF "Gators").
That being said, the town population is a very high religious, republican, welfare town.... That's right, conventional wisdom is defied here.. The God and Guns vote trumps the political Republican agenda against so-called "socialism" here.. Yet, everyone has their food stamps. Which leads into my next statement; POOR education! Not totally the teachers fault, however, when you begin a science lesson to students (such as the process of evolution) with a disclaimer of, "this is not what 'I' believe", the system has issues. Combine a population with a largely hill-billy education, a church building of some type within every square mile, with a Good 'ol boy run govt., and you've got Interlachen, Fl.

Sounds like a great place a bunch of God loving, Republicans and people that believe in the 2nd Amendment and most importantly love Jesus. I don't believe in Evolution but believe that God created the earth and everything on it. We already own land in Interlachen and as soon as my wife retires in a couple of years we're going to sell our property and head south. Looking forward to it.

I am looking for a place that has few or none Socialists. A place that believe that guns do not kill unless they are held by a thug, or a good person trying to defend him/herself or the family.friend.. If drugs are not issue, I LOVE IT. I was not born in the US, I came in 1966 and since then, I have never gone back to my birth place, (Cuba). Are they ok with veterans? I am a US Army Veteran, so is my son. Racism is not my cup of tea. If you believe in God, you must believe that we are all equal in the eyes of the Lord, and there are bad and good in every color, status, or place of birth. Poor education is national, I can say that the school system has changed a lot since I was in 8th grade in Pahokee Florida. Children were children then, and respected their parents and elders, now? Run for your life. Interlachen sounds good to me.

Such a condescending review of your neighbors and townfolk. I would suggest adjusting your own attitude and maybe you'd fit in. I am from up north myself, and I suspect you are as well, but I learned long ago not to bring my better-than-you attitude with me. In particular, if you left the rat race from somewhere else, dont bring your ideas and voting habits here. I'm particularly fond of the old saying, "yall dont know nuthin" said the hillbilly to the new city slicker....and he's usually right.
