Review of Coal Grove O,

Hate it!
Star Rating - 1/18/2011
I was born and raised in a small town in Southern Ohio called Ironton. Right on the edge of Ironton is an even smaller place called Coal Grove (it's so small it's considered to be a village!!). That's where I currently live with my husband and daughter. =/ I hate it here! It's so small and all the people are close-minded, redneck, racist hicks! I can't wait to finish college so we can get out! There is no culture or recreation! If you want to do something even remotely entertaining there sure are plenty of bars, tho! So if redneck bars is your thing then by all means, come on down! We are just right across the bridge from Ashland, Kentucky which is where most people here work because there are no jobs in this town. Ashland is a little bit bigger and has more to offer but still nothing special. There is bowling, movie theaters, a small mall, A LOT of restaurants (although nothing really all that great), and of course THE 2ND LARGEST WAL-MART IN THE US! haha (Oddly enough the 1st largest one is just 40 minutes away) Because of how small it is you would think that the people would be nice and friendly, but you would be wrong! Most people are stuck up and think their crap don't stink and that they are superior to everyone. I don't really get it. Most people around here are trash. A lot of drugs in this area as well. Every other person is either on drugs or sells them. Pills are really bad around here. If you are on any kind of medication keep it locked up!! There isn't a lot of violent crimes in the area although we have our occasional murder. And when we do it's about drugs 99% of the time. There is NO reliable public transportation. We have a cab company that charges flat rates (it's usually $5 to go anywhere in town no matter how far or close...remember it's a small place!!) and a bus system. The bad thing about that is that the bus only runs at certain times and doesn't run at all after like 9pm or something silly like that!! So if you don't have a car and you work at night you are most likely walking. That wouldn't be so bad during the summer/spring months but when it gets to be fall/winter you are screwed! The weather here sucks! It's so unpredictable! It could be warm and sunny one minute and then you blink and its storming like mad!! It's crazy! The winters are horrible if you don't like cold weather (which I HATE!). We get a moderate amount of snow but the wind will cut right through you! I suppose there is a little bit of a plus side here...we just got all new schools. Doesn't mean the education is going to be any better (we still have the same crappy teachers), but the environment is better I suppose. My daughter goes to the new elementary school in Ironton (b/c I refuse to send her to school here in Coal Grove) and it's HUGE! I think it's a bit big for an elementary school but it's combined with the middle school so I guess it's not that bad. It is a beautiful building though.
I'm not really sure what else to say about this place except...why would anyone want to stay here?! I get that when you grow up somewhere and that's where your family is you might want to stay close, but not here! I can't wait to get out!
