Transplants from California and Washington Have Ru
Star Rating - 9/30/2008
Overall, the people near and around Missoula are wonderful, caring and friendly folk. They do a great job of demonstrating what it means to be a community. There is no shortage of things to do either. However, over the past 5-10 years, there has been an influx of new residents from California and Seattle. With their money, these people have driven up the cost of living for everyone else and have made it nearly impossible for ordinary people to be able to have a decent standard of living. Since good paying jobs are difficult to find, many people have to work 2-3 full time jobs just to get by. The housing market has spiraled out of control to where no one except Califorians and Washingtonians can afford a place to live. In addition to these economic woes, these same groups have brought with them their extremist-radical socialistic views. While the Washingtonians appear to be at least open minded, the radicals from CA (namely San Fransisco) appear to be imposing their will on everyone else. These freeze-dried hippies keep driving up people's taxes (3 tax hikes in the past year alone) and proposing more wasteful spending (like building a trolley of all things downtown.)

My advice would be to move to the beautiful Bitterroot, Jocko, or Mission Valleys. This way, you might be able to avoid the antics of the transplants.
If you are planning on moving here from California or Western Washington, please don't. There are already too many of you here.

Believe it or not, I am a Southern Californian who grew up with morals, values, and a good work ethic. I was taught to leave a place better than I found it and raise my children to do the same. I am highly offended by your request for Californians to stay away from Montana. You might want to consider the revenue they bring when they visit. Your ignorance is astounding. And by the way, please don't come to California, we already have enough ignorance here.

I am looking for a place consistent with my values ( constitution, pro 2A, I do my thing you do yours etc) and Montana is on my list. After reading this post I have decided to change my mind and this is why: I moved to Seattle in 98, from Detroit ( a stellar example of long term left wing policy) and made a life there. I married a native, bought a home served in the National Guard and payed all my taxes. It is no longer the place I fell in love with so long ago. The californians have colonized it with condos, doggy day care salons and moon bat politics. They have gotten onto school boards and worked their way up the food chain into city and state government. At the same time the hoards of refugees from California have voted for these traitors. The end result is heart breaking, I have never been asked for ID to vote- EVER. Elections are always a mess, infrastructure is a like something from an Ayn Rand novel, taxes grow faster than bamboo and come in the form of " pet license fees" Thats right you need a " license" for your cat and do not expect animal control to do anything about the aggressive raccoons killing your chickens, and attacking people ( it has happened) they are protected. There is a " war on cars" and a plethora of neo fascist policies painted organic green, but least among them is a criminalized police force and protected culture of thugs and drug addicts. In fact as I was first registering to make this reply, my GF texted to tell me that while waiting for a bus downtown she had just had her wallet nearly ripped from her hand by a guy on a skate board. That never would have happened even 5 years ago. Now the police and burdened by various "civil rights" groups and cowardly city officials, they are prevented from doing the work they are trained and paid to do. The latest blow and big red flag is the new gun law that no one seems to be able to interpret and is a bench mark for worse things on the way. We the working people who pay taxes, respect social conventions, like not car prowling, robbing, raping, home invading and being an animal have no voice. The Screeching moon bats drown us out at every election and the Colonists ( californians) dig in and spread like an alien rash. The end result is a place where you have to be one of three groups to flourish : Filthy rich, dedicated welfare recipients and illegals from south of the border and not a single person in city or state politics could ever be accused of rationality, integrity or even being an adult. This is what I am leaving, after reading your post I found that I can fully empathize with you and your frustrations. so out of respect, because I know what it is like to watch a place you love get plundered and violated. I will not move to Missoula. Seriously I do not want to be a contributor of what I have seen. I would highly recommend you pay attention to school board elections and small time politics, it is how they get in. Also, be vigilant about Voter ID and elections. Drug testing and back ground checks for your elected officials may help weed out the moon bats. So do not worry, I will come and drink your beer, enjoy your mountains, spend my money, then go home...where ever that is going to be
