Review of Portland, Oregon

Best city in America
Star Rating - 2/17/2010
Ive lived here for 3 years now, and i absolutely love this place. Portland, OR is Eden to me. Everything is here and more. Anything you could possibly want to do outdoorsy is here. What other major city in the US has a breathtaking gorge with a absolutely stunning waterfalls just a 10 minutes away?? I can see St Helens, Mt. Rainer, Mt Adams, and Mt Hood all from where i live, and i live in an old building built 20s. nothing fancy. I feel like a kid in a candy shop here. The Coast is an hour from here, you can snowboard and hour from here. Thousands and thousands of hiking trails. Mt Hood is the only mountain in the US that has the only ski runs open all year round. The coffee shops here are to die for.. not the ol starbucks.. im talkin about Stumptown!! the best!! and lots of other great shops. the food carts, saturday market, the MAX, Powells!!... the biggest bookstore in the world. As soon as i moved here i sold my car and bought a bicycle, the smartest thing ive ever done. you dont need a car to live here and it saves you hundreds of dollars. Portland is about living simple and about having fun. The creativity that comes out of this place, the people you encounter. There are lot of homeless people and some can be mean but they are still people in need of help and the city does alot to help. Mercy Corps world headquarters is here. The skyline here is definitely puny. But when you look out from the westside and see the sunrise up behind mt hood!! there is nothing better!! nothing! and this town isnt about the skyline.. not only is the city center very vibrant but also is other parts of the city.. Hawthorne!,, Belmont, Division, and Alberta...Last Thursday! the only place you should avoid is ST JOHns area and most of north porland and anything east of 205 and anything south of powell except some places, like Sellwood. I cant even explain very well how awesome this city is, becuase im not very good with words when it comes to describe things. there is way to much to even talk about first of all. There are rich snobs that live here and people who dont give a crap, but the really nice friendly people make up for it. People who come here and are about big business and money should not even come here.. this place is fun. this is a very open minded city. youll see things youll never see anywhere else in your entire life guaranteed! people of portland are very smart and nice. i hope to live here as long as i can... and the weather here is beyond perfect. spring comes earlier here, summer is soo beautiful and makes you want to smile all day, and the winter it rains, and is still very beautiful.. sometimes the clouds can arrange in such a way here unlike any other place and look soooo beautiful and breathtaking.. ive seen it lightning here once. its not like east coast weather, it jsut rains lightly. occasionally downpour but not for too long. and when it snows its a blast because it never snows here in portland, and when it does its fun to watch everyone crazy into each other with their stupid cars!! haha. Bicycles rule this city. of course i dont want to see anyone get hurt but i think its funny seeing people slide in there dumb SUV down the hills is goose hollow. and in the winter.. it rarely gets lower than about 20...and averages about 35-50...in the summer it averages around 60-80, sometimes up in 90s and maybe once 100. the weather here is heavenly, the rain is what makes it so green and beautiful here, and its not humid either. i can talk about portland forever...

I wish I could understand the psychology of people like yourself who seem to enjoy what others call "9 months of gloom." If this could be understood from the written word alone, these reviews would be very helpful. But the concept is elusive. My guess is that some people are eternally upbeat, no matter what their surroundings are. Can that attitude be sold in a pill or permanently acquired after a pep talk? I doubt it.
