Review of Anchorage, Alaska

Military
Star Rating - 2/21/2010
I have heard recently that Alaska has the highest percentage of ex military men and women than any other state and find this appealing. As I reach my retirement age I like the idea that others share the same patriotism as I do and can be found within a short distance of each other. I am hoping this is true where I can find the American flag waving instead of foreign flags flying.

In search of the American dream.

I hate to break it to you, my military friend. Alaska may have several military bases and their Navy is the best in the US, but we are far from being against other countries. I've lived in alaska my entire life and I have to tell you that is very patriotic and those wearing uniforms are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy;(hell, sometimes I find myself holding out doors, thanking them and even trying to do a proper salute which is safe to say not my best strength) but alaska is heavily influenced by Athibaskans, Canadians, Yupiks, Aleuts, Japanese, Korean, and well...mostly indian and asian cultures than any other: Including America. The reason why was that about over 50 years ago was when we became an actual state. Before then there was no military base, no patriotism, and no enforcements to stop the abuse of the "Americans" moving in. Though I guess I'm a bit on a tangent about that little piece of history... Alaska is a wonderful place to live and freely accepts all races (Though sometimes we throw in a joke or two. Like how white tourists are so funny to watch at earthquake park, or flatop, both senic parts of alaska. Or how the new Japanese tourists looked so new in their just-bought fishing equipment...even though 9 out of the 10 actually knows how to fish. Or even the Kenyian twins that I once met on the bus couldn't figure out a map of the Chugiach Ridge.), and all is well and good. Though here's one little tidbit my friend: our flag isn't the only one that's a symbol for love, honor and anscesrty. I hope you find this informative and not the ramblings of a 17 year old child.
