Young Liberals Beware

After growing up here until I was 13 (that is to say isolated north of the metro), I though Omaha was okay. Not a great place to live, but okay. Then I moved to Minneapolis for 4 years and experienced what a functional and sustainable city is. I moved back to Omaha for college, and its flaws really stuck out to me. The underdeveloped downtown will soon be juxtaposed by the new monstrosity of a baseball stadium (thanks Fahey), the urban spawl is so bad that East and West Omaha feel like two different cities, and the closemindedness of the city (minus the few hippies that scatter from the public eye like cockroaches in the light) will choke any life you would have outside of up-work-home-tv-bed. Cheap, sure, but is it worth it? I don't think so.
