Rancho Cordova a city in transition Rancho Cordova was an unincorporated area of Sacramento County and was neglected until local residents organized and voted for cityhood in 2003. The majority of the city is composed of modest housing with longtime residents. A good amount of retail exists within the city and the prime areas for shopping are safe. There are other areas which are unsafe to live so when thinking about Rancho Cordova location is the key. Newer areas south of Highway 50 have attracted many families as well as professionals looking for affordable homes, amenities (parks, bike trails, and good schools) and safe neighborhoods. The nearby American River is also a desired recreational hot spot. Some of the newer areas are served by a different school district than Folsom Cordova and there is access to some high performing schools. The city is one of the few in California with a budget surplus and the city has the ability to move forward with civic projects that will increase the quality of life for residents. For example, in cooperation with private developers the city plans to move forward with an entertainment/theatre complex.
