Sleepy town, fairly low crime rate First the good: The town has a relatively low crime rate. The rough areas are on the South side and there is a movement to clean up the area. From some of the other comments, this must be the part of town that they are talking about as there are some run down areas. The area from the old depot until you head out towards Troutman is fairly rough and to be avoided at night. Traffic is much worse than it used to be, but still nowhere near as bad as Mooreville/Charlotte area. Homes at this time are from range of $80,000 - $250,000. If you want to renovate an older home there are some great examples of Victorian and Federal - some Spanish - but they sell from around $170,000+ The bad: There is very little to do for teens and older kids. There is the YMCA, and the city now has a very nice Fitness Center for those within city limits. There is a great park near downtown called Lakewood, and a nice walking park also called Mac Anderson Park. Most shopping is done in the Mooresville area. If you are like me and would like some activity or interest clubs - there are none. The community college here is very nice and gets high rankings from the professors at four year colleges and is a beautiful example of what a community college can look like. There are plenty of churches for almost any denomination, but they are not as friendly towards singles as churches in a larger city. Very little cultural events, but there are some sporting events. There are several private schools and a Montesori. If you are married with kids, you will likely enjoy living here. For seniors there are not many resources for help, and singles will likely find it a bit dull.
