Quality of Law Enforcement With over 45 years in and around Law Enforcement, local, county, state and federal nationwide, and I find it deplorable that a city as large as Salt Lake City has such an inferior Police Department. Their officers are ill trained, poorly informed and very unprofessional. I have personally never had any personal contact with these officers but have dealt with them many times in the course of conducting investigations. Having represented a fortune 500 company nationally, and internationally, I've had an opportunity to evaluate Law Enforcement throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. I'd say that the Salt Lake Police Department at best rates in the lower 10% of agencies when it comes to ability, integrity and commitment. It may be in part to attributable to the very liberal city governance and the city's lack of citizen concern and obsession with revenue. In reality I believe it to be a result of successive inferior police administrations leading to today's chief. If planning on moving to Utah, for either personal or business reasons, you'd be wise to select a community, other than Salt Lake City, where you can depend on Law Enforcement to protect your family, employees and business. No sour grapes here, just a genuine concern that newcomers have an honest view of what to expect in Salt Lake City. Other cities to avoid in Salt Lake County are West Valley City and Draper.
