Farmington Hills, Michigan is a vibrant community located in Oakland County. It is known for its excellent schools, diverse population, and vibrant culture. Politically, the city has been represented by various candidates from both major political parties in recent years. In state government, the city's current representative is Democrat Mari Manoogian, who was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2018. At the federal level, Farmington Hills is represented by Gary Peters, a Democrat serving as one of Michigan's two U.S. Senators since 2015. Locally, Farmington Hills has a mayor-council system of government where each year residents elect seven councilmembers and a mayor to serve on its City Council and Executive Committee respectively. Additionally, Farmington Hills also utilizes an at-large voting system that allows all citizens to vote for all members of the City Council regardless of their district boundaries. Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
