Yates County, located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, is largely rural and agricultural and has a population of approximately 25,000. The Yates County Legislature is responsible for governing the county's municipalities and making policies on issues such as taxation, public safety, health care and infrastructure. It consists of eleven representatives that are elected by residents during regular elections held every two years. There is a County Executive appointed by the legislature to serve as its head who is responsible for overseeing all governmental operations. The county also has several smaller local political organizations that focus on specific areas such as environmental protection or economic development. These organizations often work with the county government to create positive change in their respective communities. In recent years, Yates County has seen increased investments in public infrastructure and improvements in educational opportunities, which have greatly benefited the residents living here.
