The North Slope Borough of Alaska is located in northern Alaska bordering the Arctic Ocean on one side and the Beaufort Sea to its north. It covers an area of over 94,000 square miles and has a population of just under 10,000 people. This largely remote region is home to some of Alaska’s most iconic wildlife including polar bears, bowhead whales, musk oxen and caribou. The economy of this borough is heavily reliant on oil drilling which provides jobs for much of the population as well as revenues for local government services.
