The Southeast Fairbanks Census Area covers an area larger than Delaware at nearly 88,000 square miles with a population estimated around 7,500 people. This largely remote region offers a variety of landscapes from alpine mountains to boreal forests and vast lakes all teeming with fish species making subsistence fishing the main source of livelihood here although some oil drilling activity takes place as well. Outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing or bird watching are popular here amongst both locals and visitors alike while those looking for cultural experiences will come across several Native groups who celebrate native traditions on a regular basis throughout the year.
