Jackson County is located in east central Arkansas and has a population of about 17,900 people. Its county seat is Newport, which serves as the economic hub for much of the region. It is known for its rich farmland and picturesque countryside as well as its recreational opportunities such as hunting and fishing. This county was formed in 1829 from parts of Lawrence and Woodruff counties and was named after Andrew Jackson who had served as the 7th President of the United States.
