George County is located along Mississippi's southern coast near Gulfport on US Highway 98 stretching from Escatawpa River to Fort Bayou Estuary. It's bordered on three sides: Jackson to the west/northwest, Stone to the north/northeast, Greene to the east/southeast, & Harrison to the south/southwest . Lucedale serves as both George’s county seat & large city; other towns include Benndale & Agricola . Major economic activities include timber harvesting & related products (lumber & paper mills), farming (primarily cows), bait supply services (oyster dredging etc) , aviation (aviation repair etc) & petrochemical operations (gas refining).
