Granville County, NC joins Wake (along its northern edge) near Oxford metropolitan centre with a 2020 estimated census population of 60,589 making it the 44th most populous county situated hereabouts. Its county seat is Oxford but other cities include Butner & Creedmoor - Oxford itself equates out to Granville’s largest town aside from acknowledged country seat. This area had been established from Edgecombe and Orange Counties back in 1746 when local residents petitioned for new administrative boundaries- posthumously named after John Carteret Granvillle 2nd Baron Carteret whose successful career within British government continued late 17th century onwards.
