Mayes County is situated in east-central Oklahoma and received status during statehood - 16th May 1907 - when Pryor became founded as its county seat although towns such as Adair, Chouteau and Salina also exist across its 1600 km² (618 sq mi) area . As of 2019 government estimates from the United States Census Bureau puts the population of Mayes at 41 056 people; classification Mayes amongst some of the most densely populated counties found existing amongst Oklahomas boundary lines.
