Hand County is located in northeastern South Dakota with a population of 3,168 according to the 2019 US Census Bureau estimates. It covers an area of 966 square miles with seven incorporated cities and seven unincorporated communities. The main industries are agriculture and related activities such as ranching and poultry farming. Other businesses include light manufacturing, retail operations, call centers, banking services, food processing plants, energy generation facilities and insurance companies.
