Numero Uno so far - 9/17/2006

I spent 4 days in Billings a couple years ago, which doesn't make me an expert on the place, but I really enjoyed the visit. I found the city to be "comfortable" and the people with whom I interacted were wonderful - very friendly and outgoing. Of course, I dealt primarily with retail clerks, waitresses, etc., and not "neighbors", and I wasn't looking for employment so my experience is rather stilted. I guess my only bug would be it isolation. We often hear of "cabin fever" particularly in relation to living in a place like Hawaii. But my wife, who shares my overall opinion of Billings, really felt isolated. Face it, the next "big" town is Bozeman, 137 miles away. I've visited many wonderful cities, and for me, Billings is Numero Uno. I could move there without much hesitation.

Billings has a relatively conservative religious community. However, it also has some religious liberals.

Beautiful Billings - 11/7/2005

Billings is unique geographically, economically, and culturally. The weather is very mild! There is sunshine 340 days a year and over 200 of those are completely cloudless. There are 4 seasons but winter is mild. Snow comes in, soaks in the ground and leaves very little behind for a short time. 4 weeks later it will do the same thing. Its not uncommon to get a few 60 degree days in January and February even if the temps were below zero 2 weeks earlier. The Rocky Mountains define our southern & western skyline -- that's where the winter snow falls and stays. Within an hour anytime of year there is skiing, hiking, camping, touring, and fishing. So easy to get to. The people are genuine and friendly and about half are from somewhere else. Politically we tend to be conservative but because of our fiercely independent natures and value of an individuals character, Billingsites are very accepting of every religion, nationality, and race. People of Billings are known for their generosity and patronize fund raisers of all kinds. The city is clean and never congested, even though there are an additional 40,000 residents in areas surrounding the city limits. Billings accomodates all ages and lifestyles: families, singles, young and old. Our economy is healthy and experiencing steady growth of 1-3% annually: Healthcare, energy, education, retail, entertainment, & transportation are major industries here.
