California is Over-Rated? - 9/1/2006

Cost of living is high in most decent parts of the state, namely anywhere along the coastline. Haven't lived in any other state by which to compare the cost of living, but housing is so much here, that I am beginning to understand why so many people seem to be fleeing the state to neighboring states such as Arizona and Oregon.

Housing prices through the roof! - 8/28/2006

I've lived in California all my life, but the high housing prices have finally made myself and my family seriously consider relocating out of state. A million dollars in California doesn't buy much - certainly nothing near what it used to.

Ridiculous prices - 7/29/2006

All I have to say is that it is ridiculously expensive to live in California. You have to choose working an immense amount of overtime to own a house you will never see or live in squalor while you rent a studio apartment that in most states is the same rental price of a house

Leaving So. Ca. - 7/27/2006

Quality of life in So.Cal.had greatly deteriorited in the last 20 years. The influx of Asians and Mexicans has overtaxed our highways and residential streets..Multi-families are now living in what was built as single family housing developments..It is a commom sight to see 5,6,7 or more autos parked at one house..Up to 10 or more people living in a house built for a family of 5, at most..Just to many people in the area...Soon, So. Ca. will be in worse condition that Asia as far as the number of people per sq. mile.. TIME TO LEAVE while I still have a few years left to enjoy the American way of life..Hoping that lakeside living in Texas will make up for the years wasted in Ca.

Desert living can be more expensive than city livi - 7/21/2006

The cost of living is quite high in California. Here in the high desert, Pinon Hills, utilities are expensive such as propane, wood for heating, and water. No lawns here. Gasoline is higher in my part of the desert too. It's more expensive in Pinon Hills or nearby Phelan than in Victorville or down the mountain in the greater Los Angeles area. People also charge more for deliveries or service calls to Pinon Hills.

We pay for our climate - 7/17/2006

California is one of the most expensive places to live. It is the cost of the beautiful weather enjoyed 50 weeks out of the year.

Souther California - 7/16/2006

Southern California, Los Angeles basin, crowded with too many people and cars and not enough infrastructure to handle the load (even with high taxes)...Hot and smoggy in the summer...there are good things here if you're willing to stand in line to participate. I'm being negative, sorry, I'm just ready to leave!

Wow! - 7/16/2006

I have lived here all my life and can't believe just how much things are changing. From the cost of housing, to the crime. The places where it was ok to shop or hang out, now you don't dare even park your car and get out. I live in Sacramento county, not LA. This is just getting crazy.

California - Everything and More!! - 7/9/2006

California is the bomb! Actually, it depends on what you like but overall, i can say that it has the best weather, natural beaches, DIVERSITY, and every choice of recreational activity youre into. Youre not going to find another state that has all that wrapped up in one. Ive lived in Colorado and it has the snow, ive lived in Tennessee and it just has hot, humid weather. Thats all i can say about THAT place but ive traveled to and through other places and so far, nothing beats good ole' California!!

Elk Grove - 7/5/2006

14 yrs. living here in Elk Grove has been great! We loved the weather, the sunshine . . . not so far from Lake Tahoe only 2 hrs. drive as well as to Reno, NV and San Francisco. Elk Grove is part of Sacramento County. I have no complains about the weather here. The houses are still much affordable compared to other Cities here in California. Elk Grove is a great place to live.

California - 6/22/2006

I am fortunate enough to have two homes in California......one in the East Bay and one in the Gold Country less than thirty miles from Yosemite. The real beauty of California lies in the plethora of options for exploration. I am quite easily between 45 minutes and three hours from some of our country's most beautiful places: San Francisco, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, THE wine country....just to name a few. The only downside is the expense of living in the proximity. It is very likely that I will keep the mountain home for winter visits and retirement, but move to a more economically feasible community. Crowded - skyhigh housing costs - but I love Calif - 6/3/2006

I was born and raised in the Bay Area. There's just something special about California. Even with all of the negatives - housing costs through the roof - cities are crowded, crowded, crowded - I still love living in California.

We're outta here! - 5/29/2006

There comes a point when it seems that it's just time to leave. My wife and I are packing up our accounts and bailing out of CA. Almost all our friends are doing the same or starting to consider this option. Things change, not always for the better, and CA is a completely different state than it used to be.
