Relocating where there is diversity - 5/29/2006

We're an Asian American couple who have been married for about two years living in the Bay Area. We'd like to purchase a home, but the prices in the Northern California and Southern California are outrageous! We're thinking about relocating to a different state, but it's important that we live in an area where is diversity. Any suggestions? If possible, suggest a specific city as well. Thanks!

bay area living - 5/23/2006

Great weather, wonderful ocean access, ease of finding food and wine , terrific arts.... horrid cost of housing, traffic and tough place to meet people if you aren't in your 20s or 30s

Out of Control - 5/23/2006

I have lived in southern CA my whole life and it just keeps getting worse. crowded, expensive, inconsiderate people. We moved to the back country of San Diego to get away from it as much as possible 9 years ago and now all the jerks are moving out here too. There is ALWAYS traffic everywhere. Let them all come for the "weather" , you can have it and all the jerks too..we are looking forward to leaving this now "dump".

Ready to Leave California - 5/17/2006

The housing market is still out-of-control. They say the "bubble" is "hissing" but I don't hear it. To live in anything decent I'd need to make $149,000 per year. I'm sick of it.

State of California - 5/13/2006

This state is getting ridiculously high to live in and driving everyone away to move to other states. The only good thing is the nice weather.

More than its worth - 5/4/2006

I have been told for so many years that we pay for the weather in California, but I think we pay for the living .. time to go somewhere that the weather is free.

Beautiful but too expensive - 5/4/2006

Foster City CA and the entire Bay Area - beautiful but too expensive. Not worth the sacrifices you have to make to live comfortably. Traffic is outrageous at almost all times of the day.

Central California has very mild and very few earthquakes, very rare flooding, extremely rare storms of any sort.

Eventually, only wealthy people will be able to li - 4/25/2006

I was born and raised in California. I had always loved the fact that I live in such a unique state. But, since a devastating downsizing that has left me earning 50% less than my former salary, my view of California has changed. The housing costs in California is unreal. There's no way I can afford to purchase a home in California. A home that costs $200,000 anywhere else in the county costs $650,000 in California. The housing problem is so bad, now tenants such as myself are being forced out due to condo conversions. As soon as I can afford to move myself and my family out of California, we're gone. In the meantime, due to a condo conversion at the apartment complex I've lived in for 17 years, we just may be homeless first.

California Now - 4/21/2006

I am a 46 year old, 3rd generation, native of California. My husband is a 6th generation native. There is no category you have listed that hasn't changed overwhelmingly in the last 10 to 20 years. California is no longer the friendly Golden State of recent decades. No one who lives here anymore has been here for more than 5 to 10 years. Most are not even from the US. Welfare is high, crime in high and the cost of living, not even including the price for gasoline here, is beyond what people living in other states would believe. Customer service at any place from a local McDonald's to WalMart is amazingly poor, but is accepted by these relatively new Californians as Okay. Education is struggling to keep up with the explosion of growth in the population as well as to improve it's standards. It is loosing it's battle. Life is fast-paced, expensive and crowded. When I visit other states I am now ashamed to admit I'm from California.

Nice Place to Visit - 4/18/2006

Lived here most of my life, but it is getting expensive. But where else, besides Texas can you drive for eight hours and still be in the same state? (Well, maybe New York or Boston, during traffic jams...) Scenery is varied, lots of National parks, but lately, *too much rain*. Nonetheless, I can't quite imagine living anywhere else!
