LA County - 3/30/2010

My husband I are originally from the Midwest, but we've lived in La county for almost 11 years. We are looking to buy a new home, but we are not going to buy in LA county because are homes are so expensive.

Economy - 2/24/2010

What can I say about California's economy, except that it seems to be sinking fast. I live in So. Orange County where most if the jobs and revenues were produced by real estate, home builders, developers and RE investors. Needless to say if you were a part of that industry (as I was) you need to develop a survivalist mentality to weather this recessional storm. Having said that, I do think that CA will rise again. The call of fantastic weather and close proximity to beaches, mountains and desert will always draw people to this state. I however am contemplating a move out, starting a new life where there is less emphasis on keeping up with the Joneses. Maybe somewhere that neighbors are actually neighbors in the real sense of the word.

Education - 1/14/2010

The education system in CA has become a data driven system. Test scores are more important than student growth. As an educatior I feel that its not how much that I can get a student to learn but how well that student performs on standardized tests.

San Diego - 12/9/2009

San Diego has become overcrowded and polluted. Two new energy plants have been built the northern part of the county and a third is scheduled for construction in 2010. These plus new airports have created an unhealthy environment.

Great Culture and Recreation - 10/25/2009

With some of the best museums, orchestras, theaters (both large and small scene), the top stores to shop at, the all-time best amusement park (Disneyland) and natural wonders that run on forever, filled with ever type of recreation short of climbing glaciers - California has it all. Plus some of the best weather while you enjoy it.

Ojai, CA

Ojai, CA - 10/17/2009

Ojai is a very unique and special place. It has it's great features along with it's draw backs. It's very expensive and not really a family oriented place. The people are a mix of all kinds, though most are "older" and many may find snobby. There are two wonderful health food stores and a fantastic farmers market all year round on Sundays. Ojai is a very cute, very small town in a very beautiful "organic minded" valley. We've lived here about 8 years and have fallen in love with the Chaparral. The trails through the Los Padres National Forrest couldn't be more beautiful or full of surprises. The geology is very interesting as well. As much as we've found our place here in the natural beauty we are yet to feel comfortable in the community. The air quality could be better as we're a very small valley, and as the wind blows close to LA and Bakersfield. I must brag though that we have no industry, power plants, or mines. Ojai is great but not if you're a young family.

It's nice, but is also getting very crowded. Cost of living is expensive and traffic is getting worse. Wondering if the weather is worth the money.

Quality of Life in California - 9/15/2009

I've lived in California for 28 years (all my life). Despite all the bad publicity about my wonderful state, I still embrace it and will always remain here until my death. It has taken a turn, unfortunately, for the worst- at least for right now- this recession, has California on it's knees, but we will come out on top, once again, as one of the World's most powerful economy...we probably still are up there, despite our current financial situation. I really don't see myself anywhere else but here.
