Sub-standard - 8/23/2009

As a 7th generation Californian I have been saddened by the deterioration of what once was a great place to live and raise a family. The immigration problem is so out of control I don't think it can be corrected. I live in the Central Valley and estimate 35% to 40% of the population in my home town of Oakdale to be non-english speaking undocumented immigrants. I fear for my daughters future and want nothing more then to find a new home. Homeless in California

San Diego, the insecure city with an inferiority c - 8/22/2009

San Diegans like to claim they are these real down home type people, real and not snobby or pretentious or superficial like "those "LA types" which I find hilarious - I've lived in both places for about 15 years each and I've found people in San Diego to be nothing but hypocrites! They are hands=down, more superficial, more full of themselves, pretentious and stuck up (for no reason whatsoever) than people from LA who I have always found to be much more real, much more caring, intelligent, and friendly, open-minded and no BS. San Diegans - get over yourselves - go back to your farms or your barracks or your KKK rally and stop trying to pretend you are anything but a bunch of ignorant, racist morons that are good for cannon fodder and not much else. oh yeah, and lighten up, San Diego - you people have no sense of humor either! ;)

Pace of life - 8/21/2009

Everybody is moving too fast, working too hard, not enough time for the important things; God, family, friends... 100 degrees is too hot for me, and I like a bit of snow in the winter.

Southern California Is Really OK - 8/19/2009

Despite recent financial woes, despite lots and lots of people, despite freeway traffic, despite all the perceived warts, Southern California is still one of the most magnificent places on earth. The scenery, the food, the climate, the beach, the cultural diversity, the culture (yes there is culture here - and lots of it), the history, the architecture, the neighborhoods, etc., etc., make up an unbelievable tapestry. Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of "get away from it all" places; beautiful beaches and mountain trails (One really can surf in the morning and snowboard in the afternoon of the same day), country roads and parks (National and State). At the same time, there are plenty of places to be part of the crowd; amusement parks and attractions, sporting events, concerts, and so on. The choices are endless. In more ways than not, it is still paradise.

California Economy - 7/16/2009

Sadly, California's economy is falling more rapidly than anyone could have imagined. Beautiful place, but becoming more difficult to live in.

Looking for the good life that is affordable - 7/7/2009

I'm surprised more people aren't leaving the state of California, for places like Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa. The mid-west has so much to offer! It's affordable...where one parent can work, and one raise the kids...and you can grow a garden too!

Time to move - 7/6/2009

High cost of living, dysfunctional state government, on the verge of total collapse. Of course on the other side, great weather, awesome coast and mountains. Something for everyone. Then the politicians sold it to the highest bidder.

Cost of Living - 6/18/2009

Each day is gets harder to live in Southern California. Housing, for the most part, remains unaffordable. Gas prices are soaring as is food. I'm not sure how long we will be able to afford So. Cal.

Impossible to decide what state to move to. - 6/6/2009

Years go by and we still can not decide what city is best for future retirement. Living in Southern California has spoiled us for sure.

Safety First - 5/31/2009

In Tustin, CA, we enjoy very safe living conditions. We are ready to size down and relocate/retire from Southern California to a more affordable community somewhere in perhaps North Carolina. I'm finding it difficult to find an area where crime is low in comparison to my community. I do not see a date for the statistics data on this site. 1 - Has the crime rate in Wilminton, NC, improved since it was listed as one of the "least safe small cities" by Sperling's? 2 - Is this site current on data? Thanks for your help, Rita

central California - 5/16/2009

It is more inexpensive than most areas of California, but it's Republican diomance makes it hard to relate to most of the fellow residents. The hot summers are unbearable, and the fog can make it hard to commute to work November-February.

Great Quality of Life in Paradise, CA - 5/3/2009

I have lived in Paradise, California, for going on 5 years. The quality of life and beauty is hard to beat. The winters are a bit long and harsh and periods of the summer can be excessively hot, but the crime is next to none and the people very friendly. There are many lakes, rivers, and streams to enjoy, great hiking and outdoor activities, great shopping and medical with nearby Chico, CA, and lots of sunny days per year.
