cost of living in san jose ca - 3/4/2009

having lived in san jose for 30 years, ive watched prices of everything skyrocket. young families will never own a home here. the average job in san jose barely covers rent, lights and food. it is hard to get ahead here. it really takes two incomes here to have a life. i have owned a business here for most of my life and im glad to be out business costs and taxes are excessive

Paradise lost - 2/8/2009

This was once a beautiful state. It is not that way anymore, northern or southern. The greed of the realtors, plus a useless, exploitive governor, plus far too many people who thought they deserved homes but could not afford them, plus too much traffic, too much road rage, and too many social programs for people who shouldn't even be here, have turned this state into a cesspool. I'm a native Californian, I saw it happen. So, for all you California-haters, guess what, it could happen to you, too.

My husband and I love California. The weather is perfect, the scenery beautiful...it's just the darn cost of living here that gets you down. I guess if it was beautiful and cheap, there wouldn't be any other states inhabited.

California dreaming? Think twice, a nightmare is a - 11/6/2008

It would be hard to beat California for recreation, culture and weather. What people from other places don't realize is that the cost of living, congested freeways, crime and out of control immigration, legal and illegal, make this a less than friendly environment. We are heavily taxed in every way except property, and the state is still deeply in the red. I am a California native, and I am moving on, looking for someplace that is more like the California in which I grew up.

I have lived in California my entire life. I thought I was getting older feeling that it was not the same any more. Then my son said he missed LA but not really, what he missed was no longer here, it just is not the same.

POLITICS - 10/21/2008

Overall, has become too liberal, as evidenced by looking at our bloated spending. I actually intend to move out of the state, though I am a multi-generational native..both sides of my family having been here quite a while. It's nice to be kind to people, including new arrivals seeking a better life. But expecting everyone to sit back and watch the expanding destruction of school systems, health systems, infrastructure,the overloading of courts and the penal system, and then to be summarily berated when one questions the fact that the people and businesses of the state are being taxed into oblivion (and there are giant budget problems constantly), is a bit much. People from other states laugh at the crazy Californians...much of our problem is caused by your gain... most of our increased population/political nuts and homeless come from other states/countries. That has given rise to support of and electoral power to the "progressives" (they don't like to be called liberal or, more correctly, socialist). So we have the neighbors you used to laugh at or fear, for one reason or another. For years we have borne the brunt/expense of supporting foreign nationals that you are becoming alarmed at seeing in your neighborhoods. Good luck, but your attitudes when we tried to correct the situation (while the state was still moderately conservative) tended to make the situation worse. You didn't care because it wasn't having any effect on you. Stand by....you are next if you allow it. It was a great state...a wonderful state. I honestly hope that, wherever you live, you do not allow the same types of things to happen, and that you will always be able to say that yours "is" a great state, not "was" a great state. BUT...the weather is usually pretty darn nice here in SOCAL. The problem is one isn't able to get anywhere to enjoy the activities and sights that are so famous without subjecting oneself to a day in the parking lots {commonly referred to as freeways.... take lots of sunscreen if you are in a convertible). If you've never been here it is worth it....if you live here it is often not worth the hassle. GOD I LOVED THIS STATE.

Climate - 10/3/2008

The climate in California as for the most part very nice year round. The northern part of the state gives you the four seasons, where as southern California is really desert and can be very dry, dusty and extremely hot.
