| It is OK, but the taxes and crime is creeping up - 6/20/2007
Been in Charlotte since 99. Not a bad place, growing a lot every year. Crime , roads, schools, and taxes are starting to get bad but overall still a good place to live. Not as redneck as other outlying cities.

| The down and dirty about Charlotte - 5/2/2007
Having moved here two years ago from the Midwest and having lived all over the country I think I can add an honest assessment of Charlotte.
To the person who talked about racial issues. As a white male, I can state that Charlotte is THE most race neutral city I've ever lived in. If someone has preconceived ideas about "those people" be they white, black, asian or hispanic, they will be suprised in Charlotte and if they bring their prejudice, they won't fit in. People here are not judged by the color of their skin but the strength of their character.
Like every major city, crime is an issue. It is bad here and the numbers show it. A little caution is in order and if you live on the edge you are going to get burned.
Traffic is horrendous. They have a miserable interstate system that is overwhelmed and rush hour is perilous at best and I've learned to monitor the traffic reports closely and have at least two alternate routes to anywhere.
To the person who asked about the schools: The Charlotte Schools are not the best. They do the best they can and for a large city they are above average but they don't have enough schools and the population is always way ahead of their budget. The high schools are larger than small cities and some schools have more trouble than others. The best decision my family made was to beat feet south across the state line to Fort Mill SC where the schools are some of the best I've ever seen. It's a fair trade for the commute into the city. (45 minutes to 1 hour)
Climate: Excellent climate, four seasons but never extreme.
Cost of living is higher than you would expect for the region but property values on both sides of the state line are excellent. SC has less tax burden the NC but it costs a little more to live there.
Employment: If you aren't working you aren't trying.

| After 14 months in Charlotte from the west coast - 4/26/2007
Charlotte has a good job market (I have a great job, with great people and a great company), nice people, and not too expensive. But, for a single 30 year old guy used to fitness minded folks, outdoors events and a social life Charlotte is severly lacking. Its a great city if you are married with kids. but for a single male it is an absolute graveyard. To be quite candid, After living in Phx, Colorado Springs, and New Mexico. Charlotte is one of the most boring, lonely, and unfriendly city I have ever lived in. It was so easy to make friends and find dates out west, it is impossible if you aren't married or native to the south. I love my job and my career is what motivates me, but I detest Charlotte and NC. Its great because I have more time to focus on work, but very lonely. Charlotte is a horrible city for singles, especially males from the west. The women here are not as nice, fit, talented as women in the west. I give Charlotte a big fat F for quality of living- social life. Very hard to make friends here, just not a fun place. But again, great for married folks and families, if you are single DONT come here. you will regret it.

| Schools: Good luck - 4/15/2007
While it appears the schools are getting better I can say they are not.I grew up in the public schools of Pennsylvania and used to the system up North. My wife and 2 children moved to Charlotte in 2001 (preschool years) not worried about the schools. FORTUNATLY for us our oldest now 8 got into a new charter school (Carolina International School) the year it first opened (our ongest will be attending next year as a K). My wife drives her everyday (30 minutes away) to attend this new school and it is the luckiest thing that has happened to us. We live literally 2 miles from Mallard Creek Elem. I can say the schools in Charlotte suck...sorry for being so honest. The teachers are too young and teach to the lowest level in the class. The schools are over crowded and are in mobile units due to the over growth and unlimited growth allowed by the massive Mecklenburg City government. (which is their biggest issue...they are too large...in PA schools were broken into municipal's which served the local population. The Charlotte area from all the places we have lived has teh WROST school structures and education (lived in Mt Lebanon, PA, Alexandria, VA, and now Charlotte, NC). One side note...more New Yorkers are moving down here too bring their nasty attitudes and rough approach on life. Very in your face...also crime is getting much worse in the once quit suburbs...I attribute this to the lenders giving anyone a loan as well...the folks who used to liev in teh city proper areas are moving to the suburbs bringing the gang related type crimes with them. We had 2 officers killed just 2 weeks ago...gang related. Its really a shame too, we do love the city area and the cleanliness but teh gov't here is bad...they have allowed it to grow too large for them to handle...with all that said...we do plan on staying until I relocate and would move back but I would be much smarter about where I live...outside of the mecklenburg grips! hopefully they get control of the urban sprawl and teh crime it has created...of the do that it truly would be the best place to raise a family..until then I would never move my family here just to be in Charlotte...move to Nashville, TN instead...I have heard noting but great things about Nashville.

| Charlotte is smarming with investors for obvious r - 4/10/2007
There are two major Real Estate Investor Associations in Charlotte, but a lot more investors live out-of-state. Investors from CA and NY/NJ appreciate the low home prices and for the most part have a better grasp of buying and holding. Although..... I do get a lot of investors that call me who I want nothing to do with based on their shady business practices. If you want to invest honestly, give me a call. I can get you access to great deals, especially on new construction. Check-out my website, www.BrokerBryan.com and I look forward to helping you cash flow.

| Would Like information concerning Best Schools in - 3/30/2007
I am a married mother of five Children. My husband and I are looking to possibly relocate to Charlotte. I would like to know if someone could tell me about the area that has the top charlotte schools. We are currently living in Fort Myers Florida and were tranferred here from Michigan. We hate it here in Fort Myers. There's nothing for families and the educational system in rediculously hideous. This whole city depresses people. Can anyone give me some info on Charlotte and it's surrounding areas including best areas to live.

| charlotte is boring - 3/3/2007
I am a 37 year old single woman living in Charlotte and the nightlife is non-existant. There are new condos going up on every corner. I just don't know what you will enjoy when you move here. If you like sports, you are in luck, but good luck on finding parking uptown. The crime is high, from people breaking into houses, to rape, to murder. The schools here are bad, kids bringing guns or drugs school. A lot of boring conservative corporate banker types living here. People seem to be stressed very rude from traffic road rage to just finding a parking space or standing in a grocery line. If you fit in with the soccer mom SUV corporate banker husband lifestyle you will do fine. If you fit outside of that mold or are a little different, good luck they don't want you here.

| I agree with the comment disagreeing with the comm - 2/21/2007
I am also a black female in my late 30s with a PhD and recently relocated to Charlotte. It has been my experience in the various metro areas that I have lived in that there are sections of the city that are going to more or less desirable depending on your preferences. I researched Charlotte prior to relocating and found that the university area was more conducive to my lifestyle and professional peering. On the other hand, my sister moved here approximately 5 years ago and decided to move to east Charlotte, which is closer to the lifestyle that she leads. It is all about choices and it is ridiculous and small-minded to condemn an entire city or the black community for your shortcomings and low self-expectations. Additionally, it would be wise to research the actual demographic before ascertaining that crime and poverty are limited to black neighborhoods. Crime and poverty are not prejudice and span both the white and black races in not only Charlotte, but the entire country. It would be a nice change to see an intelligent, well-thought, fact based comment every now and then; especially one that is so pointed and assuming. Charlotte is definitely what you make it. I intend to make it my home for some time to come.

| I need some help - 2/1/2007
I am 28 years old and I just got married, my husband and I want to find a really good location to live a "young" life we are not into clubs or any of that but we do like to have a good time like movies and special outings. We would like to start a family and just basically live in a decent area. We are into working and having good things to appreciate. We are from Pennsylvania and have heard a lot about the southern areas but I really for some reason am interested in Charlotte. Does anybody know or have any very well educated opinions about this town that can help me and my husband in making a decent decision on moving there? I'd greatly appreciate it. THANKS!!! I can be reached at www.anglswach@yahoo.com

| Investor wants to learn more - 1/15/2007
I've heard wonderful things about Charlotte and it's growth. I'm a professional real estate investor looking to purchase houses in Charlotte and fix them up as affordable dignified housing for middle and lower income families. I'm working to identify areas and neighborhoods that fit this demographic and that show indications of pride of ownership. I look forward to feedback!
Warm regards,
Robin

| Thinking of Relocating - 1/14/2007
I am a single, African-American female professional with no children and I have been living in ABQ for 9 years and I am ready for a change. I appreciate the mild climate (hot, dry summers, definitely tolerable to very little or no snow most winters), but I do not appreciate the culture here, which is not conducive to the advancement of African-Americans. People often cite Albuquerque for it's varied diversity, but that is simply not true.
For that reason, I've been doing my research to find a place to relocate and settle down and it seems as though Charlotte, NC would be a good place to go. (if anyone is searching for a wealth of information, wikipedia.com if an excellent resource). Would anyone be so kind as to provide information on what the healthcare field there is like as far as nursing opportunities?
Also, I am looking to rent an apt. and maybe purchase a home after a year if I want to stay. Where are the best places to live in and around Charlotte? What are the more bustling places and where would the more quiet places/suburbs be? Thanks in advance for your info.
