Great Weather - 5/27/2009

I have lived in Colorado Springs for over 25 years. The weather is sunny about 300 days a year, with very little rain. Not much snow in this area, although we can have storms which dump snow that can last days or weeks.

Great climate on the southwest side of the city - 3/24/2009

The southwest side of Colorado Springs has the mildest climate in the city. Most of the worst winter storms hit hardest north, south or east of us. Even the most recent blizzards have been milder here then elsewhere in the city. In fact the local school children (District 12) complain about the lack of snow days!

Are you moving here? - 11/30/2008

I have lived in colorado springs most of my life. (23years)I have also lived in L.A. , Minneapolis and Portland,Or. Colorado Springs is a relatively good place to raise kids and to enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, climbing, parks and recreation. The weather is typically very nice. Even in the winter the misconception of ALOT of snow is not necessarily the case. If and when it does snow in the winter it usually is melted away by that same day or the next day. HOWEVER..... purely my opinion coming: Colorado Springs is FULL of conservative people and has a very conservative atmosphere. Conservative meaning, no culture, no acceptance of diversity, no nightlife, no museums or intersting places to visit other than "Old Colorado city and manitou" (which really are over rated anyhow) Futher proving my claim of Conservative.... I am a white male with a black wife and 3 intteracial children, and if you happen to be in a certain area of town,we seam to be looked down on or unaccepted or at the very least we catch many, many looks from " CONSERVATIVES". Some may call them "rednecks" or "yuppees". I'll just be nice and say conservatives. The job market is and has been suffering for a while. The city is full of CAll-Center jobs. I was formerly not educated from college and worked mostly call center work. I found that majority of my co-workers in similiar positions were all educated people and working for the same below average wages as myself. Unless you have some type of trade or small business here the only other well paying employment is The military. There are 4-5 military bases in this city and if it werent for the military here there would be absolutely no diversity, no culture, no black or hispanic or asian americans. There would be nothing but retired , closet racists here if it werent for the military, with a small population of free spirited college students. Last but not least.... compared to other cities I have lived, there really arent very many GOOD places to eat out. All in all, Colorado Springs can be a good place to live especially to raise kids. It all just depends on what the individual wants out of life. After living here for many years and seeing so much conservative values.. I would prefer to have my children grow up in a more diverse and cultured upbringing without the hustlke and bustle of a big city. Now I just have to try to find this description of what I'm looking for. HaHa

Recreation - 11/11/2008

The area is absolutely beautiful with the natural backdrop of Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. As a result, the area has plentiful opportunities for outdoor recreation, usually year-round.

Living in Colorado Springs - 10/11/2008

I rate Colorado Springs as one of the best places to live. If you can't find a sport, recreation or activity to do here, it would amaze me. We don't have oceans to swim in but we have plenty of swimming pools and lots of ponds, creeks and rivers. Denver is within easy driving distance to see even more events.

Not a bad choice for place to live at all - 10/4/2008

Well, I have been here 6 years and really like Colorado Springs. The weather is overall really good. There's no humidity, winters are long but mild. If you are from the Coast you will have a much harder adjustment, but I had lived in PA and CA so I was more exposed to both prior to living here. The city is growing leaps and bounds! People are more friendly here than in CA, Cost of Living is MUCH better ! Views of the city and mountains are great (if you live North of Downtown). Crime was NIL when I arrived and has steadily climbed ever since. But we have a large increase in people (good and bad moving here) so that is to be expected. The strangest thing when I arrived was seeing an electric bill which included street lights. That is just outrageous. The city no longer gets away with charging everyone for such nonsense. Another puzzling thing is the city pulls in wealth and with their own agenda have broke the budget every year and then go into a deficit. There is no foresight in planning at all. Republicans have a strong hold here which is obvious when driving thru the neighborhoods and seeing sign after sign after sign for McCain-Palin. Workforce here is mixed, I would suggest a new arrival should have a job already in place before buying a home. Other than that, this is a really nice place, good hard working folks, a bit redneck but what is wrong with redneck? I really like it here and would trade a beach front for mello living, less drama, less traffic, less inflation, less crime, any day of the week.

Colorado Springs - the truth from a new resident, - 8/21/2008

August 20, 2008 I just moved to Colorado Springs, CO, due to the lack of employment in Indiana. So far it has been a big mistake. I have been here two weeks as of August 21, 2008. I am a nomad of sorts, especially in the last four years and during my childhood. Therefore, my impression of CS is not due to my inexperience in moving to new locations. It is the impression I get from the locals and the economy. So far it has been a 4K mistake. Unfortunately, it looks as if I am stuck here as the money has run out. I am unemployed due to Indiana's economy. The sad thing is, I did my research before moving here. I spent thousands of hours on the net and CS looked like a great place to move. However, when I arrived the locals were confused as to what year I acquired my data from, as the job market is horrible. In addition, rentals are way too high in comparison to anywhere else I have lived and the traffic and drivers are unbelievable. Oh yeah, social services are non-existent. The social service web sites are nicely done though. A big bravo for them. I guess expenditures writing up all the 'pats on the back' to the Staff and Donors, in addition to repetitive data on the less fortunate are where all the monies went. Yep, there are some sour grapes from this ole gal. On the upside the scenery is beautiful. I guess I will be seeing a lot of it. I plan to spend what I have left in monies this evening on a tent and head to a campsite. I cannot afford the rent here and refuse to live in a high dollar slum. There are tons of them to choose from if you enjoy that lifestyle. Perhaps I will have good news later, but at this point it doesn't appear that way. Stay away from here unless you have a lot of savings and a job to go to. Don't play 'pioneer' as I did. Regards, Lois Lane (I wish I was, then superman could save me.) ;-) P.S. Additional information or retorts will be difficult from the ole campsite, but I will be able to make an occasional trip to the local library to check on my post/account.

August in Colorado - 8/19/2008

August is normally very hot, but this year has been absolutely stunning. These cool rainy days with spatterings of sunshine has turned everything green. If you get up early in the morning, you can see the clouds curling their way through the mountains with the sun shining through providing the most beautiful backlight to Pikes Peak.

Diversity in Colorado Springs - 8/2/2008

How is diversity in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Fort Collins? Which area is the most diverse? Are people friendly to those who are not Colorado natives? I'm from the Midwest and my husband is Moroccan. We are both college educated and looking for a comfortable place to call home. I look forward to your comments. Thanks in advance.

Colorado Springs - 7/10/2008

This is a great community to work and live in. The climate is moderate, we have 4 seasons and the views are awesome. We get a lot of negative press for religious and political extremism but as someone that has lived in NYC, DFW, Houston, Europe and Las Vegas, I feel like this is a moderate political climate and reflects the political beliefs of middle America in general. Yes we have the occasional outspoken extremist and that seems to be the focus of national media. Socially, I don't see this area making "E's" Top 10 Sexiest Party Spots list any time soon. As a matter of fact most of the people we see moving this way are moving away from that lifestyle. The priorities here seem to be quality of life, education and family. So if you're looking to hook up with the twenty something, hedge fund hottie, probably not the town for you.

BORING!!! - 7/6/2008

I married a Colo.Springs native so I moved here from Mass. I've tried to like this boring place, did all the stuff people do out here, but I've never been able to like it here. It's getting infested with illegal immigrants too. You can't just walk anywhere here, you always gotta drive cuz the city is so spread out. There's absolutely nothing to do here but eat and go to work. They've got hundreds of good restaurants. It snows, it seems, constantly from halloween to May. Yes, the snow melts daily but when summer comes it rains constantly from 2pm to 4pm daily, with some dangerous lightning. Gangs are moving here from Calif. If you need to move to Colorado, I hear Louisville is a great city to move to.

A little adventure is nice... - 7/5/2008

I have enjoyed living in different states in the US (IL,GA,LA,WA,NY,DE,)and vacationing in others as well. What amazes me about us (Americans), is that it seems as though we just can't appreciate a different experience. We have such freedoms to complain about everything (crime, education, careers weather, etc...) We tell our kids to get a good education and go work for a major coporation, instead of teaching them to one day run their own. As long as evil exist in the world there will be crime, in WA state I've seen halfway houses full of pedophiles right next to an elementary schools. Delaware gets more rain it seems than Seattle, and water quality, last week I thought I was drinking my own pee! New Orleans, well dare we even go there. Atlanta, clean city too over crowded. Southern Illinois, corn and soy beans smells like hogland US and I was raised there (population 5,000)! I could go on and on. I have appreciated and disliked most of the places my foot has trodden, but I am so thankful that I can choose when I've had enough. Now is CS that bad... no ( I don't even live there) because anywhere you go in the world it will have it's draw backs. I look at each move as an adventure. I love the mountains, which is why places like CS, Upstate NY, England, Germany, the Carribean fits for me as a future move. I have very young children that are loving the adventure with me. I am going to live my life to the fullest, complaining just makes you stiff and arthritic, new adventures gets your blood pumping! Stop complaining and find something/place that you can be at peace, good or bad and then you can say, I'm home!

Apartment help - 6/30/2008

I'm looking to relocate to Colorado Springs to go to school. I'm looking for a nice and affordable apartment. Preferably something new and as I'm 28 I would like to be away from the other college kids. I was hoping someone could give me some apartment names to check out online. Also, could someone recommend what areas to avoid and which to consider? I would appreciate the help!! :)

The Good and Bad of Colorado Springs - 6/26/2008

Unfortunately, like the rest of the country, Colorado Springs is going through a deep recession. The main non-military employers have been leaving the city in droves. There is a very high rate of home foreclosures going on. If you are considering moving here make sure that it is with the military. If you are looking for a non-military job, chances are slim and absolutely zero if you are over 45 years old. On the plus side, crime is lower than the national average, good schools, restaurants and shopping. The climate is favorable and the scenery spectacular. There are a lot of things to see and do in the area. Denver is not too far away.

All over - 6/9/2008

The crime here is terrible!! I have been followed out of the grocery store in areas where house prices are 300K, by persons trying to rob me!! And more than once!! Then try getting your vehicle broken into as well. It's all over here, and it's always windy, almost every day. I live in what is considered a better area of town and I would hate to know what the "bad" side is to be honest. Drive-bys, shootings and rapes are all too common.
