| Citrus county, FL (a better place to live?) - 11/11/2010
I highly disagree that Citrus county is a better place to live. It is a bad place to live. One is dictated at every facet of living or improving ones life or property. Just to do the simplest task must be done with the purchase of permission, or permits according to a "code". This county is a leader of having become a dictatorship aligned with that of Germany some 70 years ago with storm trooper enforcement goons tramping on your personal property (without permission) hiding behind the excuse that a neighbor tattled on you. The inquisition if you will, searching behind every tree, under every rock, and interrogating as they go. The citizen is a criminal in their eyes and they will prove it according to every ridiculous and demeaning "code" a commissioner can dream of and hustle through every other Tuesday at (when?) 1PM on your work day afternoon.
A good guy, bad guy scenario is in existence in Citrus county whereby the neighbor whose friendship you should be enjoying is encouraged to tattle on you for any ridiculous reason, creating a hate and animosity amongst citizens. This is divide and conquer type of control by government against the citizen. Control officers now stomp across your property, trespassing, uninvited, and intimidating. An individual on a power trip, with camera in one hand and clipboard in the other, judge and jury against the property owner knowing they have the backing of governmental extortion if you do not comply with their wishes. If you do not cooperate fully, be blackmailed. This unfriendly government will fine you and lien your property from you. As a property owner you are at the disadvantage as you can see.
As a Constitution abiding, citizen born, raised, and taught in this United States of America, I want the rights I have been promised as I grew up and then spent time in the Army and adult life to enforce. I want the privilege I have by nature to think and learn for myself. I do not want the hell of embarrassment, harassment, threats, and intimidation brought against myself and my neighbor who build, repair, invent, create, new ideas, and think by a narrow minded government who demands every one and everything be uniform and sterile.
I am selling out of Citrus County (and out of FL). I, as a free American, can not and will not attempt to survive my retirement years under a dictatorship or anything akin to it. It affects ones mental and physical health. I have many thoughts and much to say on this subject. Th

| Re; News Flash - 10/30/2010
Just when you think the State of Florida is all that and a bag of chips, you better second think that coming here to Tampa, Florida. First of all let me start by saying, NO real JOBS/Jobs period, False advertisements on employment, Very discriminating here amongst your experience and race. Even in 2010, the city of Tampa still engages in discriminatory hiring practices. This particular state is definately a retirement home for seniors with no real night life. No 4 seasons, but summer all year long with constant raining just about everyday in different locations. All in all there appears to be no diversity!!!

| South Florida Economy - 8/26/2010
Everytime I turn around, another restaurant or store has shut down. People are leaving south Florida because there are no jobs. Many houses are in foreclosure or have "short sale" signs on the front lawn. It's very depressing. Also, if you don't speak Spanish, you have little chance at getting many jobs. The only thing going for south Florida is the winter weather. Other than that, it's not a good place to live.

| Clean and green - 8/6/2010
I currently live in south florida and I love it. Everything is so clean and green and well landscaped. There is so much to do. We moved here from Massachusetts and are very happy to not have to shovel again! However I am really not liking the humidity. It is very very hot during the summer, which is better than the snow but its getting to be to much!
I would say the quality of our life is better in Florida than in MA. There is always something to do !

| Surviving Economically - 7/11/2010
The talk is today that the economy is a long way from recovering. On top of that the possibility of a depression like the one that occured in the 30's! Should we not be preparing some survival tactics? Where is the best place to live to survive the hard times that may come?
I've just recently left the Virgin Islands after 30 years. They depend mostly on tourism. The island is mainly rock so farming is limited. Everything is imported, therefore more expensive. Many businesses have gone under, crime is out of control, as it is in many places!
So here I am in West Palm Beach, Fl. all settled, working a retail position selling items that are not necessities. The area is also a tourist spot, nice, fun, clean. Cost of living is managable. I haven't been able to locate any local community gardens or farms. The earth is sandy and may not be suitable for farming. The sun is extremely hot during the summer months. A/C units run 24/7. That can't be good for the environment! Comming from island life, having windows and doors open all the time, enjoying the sea breeze is what I'm accustom to
Now I'm wondering did I choose the right place to reside? I'm feeling now that I should be in a state that has local farming, tight knit community where folks look out for each other work together etc. Comfortable year long climate, plantable land, clean air, allergy friendly. Now I'm considering the Carolinas, not too far from the coast, at the same time convienent to the fresh air of the mountains. Is anyone familiar with the Carolinas, South preferably?

| Mistaken Assumptions About Florida - 6/22/2010
As a native South Floridian, the first thing I feel compelled to tell people is that we AREN'T all rude or unfriendly and there are just as many things to love about Florida as there are to disparage. You can find just about anything you're looking for, short of mountains perhaps (snow skiing and sledding are probably out, too). I happen to love the sound of the breeze blowing through the palm fronds outside my windows, the cicadas and and the furious, pounding thunderstorms that roll in every afternoon in the summertime. Our winters are legendary and the envy of so many who are stuck up north during those months. If you aren't the beach/palm tree type, then you might find it's more to your liking in Central or North Florida, which boasts rolling hills and a more countrified, small town atmosphere. Drive around and decide for yourself. We're friendly and we don't bite. :)

| Job market in FL - 5/28/2010
I have lived in FL for 30 years and I am looking to relocate, but do not know where specifically. I am most concerned about the job market here in FL right now. I am unemployed and am looking for a metropolitan area that will better serve my needs, not only in an economy but in other categories like crime, climate, education and cost of living.

| Sarasota/Manatee County - 4/23/2010
People always are looking to relocate to Florida. But what they really need to do is .... their homework before moving and then expecting to find a job. The Sarasota/Manatee county areas are well above the national unemployment rate, the current unemployment rate for our region is 12.8% which makes finding a job here is very hard. The region does not have enough diversity in its industry to support the economyfor this region. The weather is great ...but most people are surprised by the low pay rates and the hard time they have by trying to find a job once they get here. So do your homework before you "just move".

| Northeast Florida Coast - 3/8/2010
Lower cost of living, walkable neighborhoods close to everything necessary, five houses from the Atlantic Ocean, yes, house values have dropped...but so have the taxes, very friendly customer service personnel and neighbors, no long commutes, you can take back roads along the river to almost anywhere and Interstate 95 is only nine miles from the ocean shore. If you want the LA, NYC, SF, or Atlanta type of living, this is not for you. If you like the sun, sand and a low key, laid back style, then come on down.
